I hear music. A soft tune. I struggle to make the tune. Where am I? I finally open my eyes. It takes some time to adjust to all the light. Slowly sitting up I take notice of my surroundings. I'm in a hospital? This doesn't make any sense. There's no way I could still be alive. Is this real? Is this a dream? I look down remembering my wound. Lifting the white shirt I was wearing and I saw the wound was completely healed, save for a small scar in its place.

Lost in thought I didn't even notice someone walk in. "Miss. (Y/L/N)?" She spoke up. She wasn't a nurse, or at least she wasn't dressed like one. She looked more like one of the many ladies I worked with in the SSR.

"Where am I?" I say, sitting on the edge of the bed. "You are in New York, in a hospital recovering." She seemed nervous. Something was off. Something didn't seem right. Glancing around the room, everything looked too neat, too perfect. I felt my senses heighten almost instinctually. Standing from the edge of the bed I turn to face the woman head on, allowing my glow to surround me. "Where am I really?"

I can swear I hear her breath hitch, her heartbeat quicken. I hit a nerve. I'm right. I take one step closer to her. "Patriot Angel, please calm down." Her hand comes up as if asking me to stay back. I feel my glow brighten. Her eyes widen.

Before I can go any further, the door opens and I see Steve standing in the doorway. "Steve!" Instantly my glow fades as I run to him to give him a giant hug.

"(Y/N)" He smiles into the hug.

"Where are we? I thought..." I let my words fall as I stop from saying what I really was thinking. I thought I was going to see Bucky again.

He breaks the hug and leads me back to the bed, motioning for me to take a seat next to him. He nods at the woman in the room. As if understanding him she exits the room and closes the door behind her.

"It took you a while longer to wake up... I've been waiting for you to wake up for a week now (Y/N)." He looked like he wanted to say more, but didn't know how.

"What is it?" Tension building up in the pit of my stomach. "We've been asleep (Y/N), we've been asleep for almost 70 years."

-.-.-.-

It's been 2 years since I found out we went into the ice and woke up 70 years later. One day I was in 1945, the next thing I knew I was in 2012. Since then I've realized the world I used to know has changed so much more than I thought.

The events in New York opened my eyes to how much the world has changed. I used to think I was the only weird experiment out there. But when Director Fury asked for our help, Steve and I met all sorts of interesting people.

After fighting with the Avengers in New York, I realized I wasn't the only different person out there. It made me feel at home. Once the battle of New York ended though, everyone kind of went their own ways.

I stayed in New York, went to work for Tony. It felt like working with Howard, familiar and safe. I hated that it meant I was apart from Steve, who went to work for SHEILD in D.C. But he understood where he needed to be, and understood my decisions to stay in New York.

Tony had gone through a huge ordeal right after New York. Pepper was taken hostage, things got rough. I helped where I could. He appreciated that. We fell into a nice rhythm Tony and I, and quickly our friendship grew. It felt like the good old days.

I quickly got used to life in this new time. Technology was always something that interested me, even in the 1940's. So I adapted rather quickly. I knew Steve was having a much harder time with that, but he tried.

We both talked on the phone every day. We made sure no matter how far apart we were, we stayed close. We were the only family we had left. Most everyone we knew was gone. Except for Peggy. My heart tightened at the thought. Steve went into the ice loving a woman, and came back to her older, her life lived. While I knew regret ate at him, he was just happy to still have her in his life in any capacity. That was why he went to work for SHEILD, knowing she was a founding member made that decision easy for him.

All of this replayed in my mind, every morning when I went for my jog through Central Park. Today was no different. I jogged my way out of the park and to the Starbucks I frequented every morning.

"Hey (Y/N), same as usual?" The barista knew my favorite by now. "Yeah thanks Joe." He sent a smile my way. It felt weird when I went out around the town. No one ever recognized me, unlike Tony or even Steve. If I wasn't in my fight suit, I blended in quite well with the rest of the world. I kind of liked that, Natasha said it made me a good agent. Steve and Natasha would always bicker between each other if I was a better agent or soldier. I could care less on either one.

Grabbing my coffee I started walking towards the tower. My home.

Once I got to the tower I walked towards the elevator. "Jarvis, to the lab please." I said once inside the elevator. "Yes Miss. (Y/L/N)." The melodic voice of Jarvis replied.

Once the elevator doors opened I could hear Tony's music blasting throughout the whole lab. Of course. Typical Tony.

"Any louder Tony??" I yell over the music as I enter the lab.

"Why not Tinkerbell? Jarvis raise the volume up by 5." He laughed as I rolled my eyes. I hate the stupid nicknames he comes up with. Tony's sarcasm is something Howard never had.

"So what do you need help with today Tony?" I say placing my coffee down, removing my jacket and tying it around my waist. Mentally preparing myself to get waist deep in tech.

"Well... Don't tell Pepper... but I'm working on Mark XLIII" Tony grins, while showing you the specs on his screen.

"Tony. I thought you promised Pepper that it was over." You said knowing full well that promise was never going to happen. Tony never knew when to stop. But you adored Pepper, she was so sweet. She didn't deserve more disappointment from Tony.

"Chill out Thumbelina, what Pepper doesn't know, won't hurt her." He gives you some puppy dog eyes, begging for you to take interest. Sighing, you give in and start working.

-.-.-.-

Hours into working you get a call on your cell. Maria Hill. Well this can't be good. If Hill is calling, it's only because she needs something.

"(Y/N)" She says as I answer the call, not even letting me get a word in first. "Fury and I need you in D.C. Something's up."

"Got it. Are you picking me up?" I responded, shooing Tony away from being nosey. "I'm already downstairs. Let's go." She said as she ended the call.

"Well Tony, looks like I got some other work to do. You're on your own." I say as I put my cellphone away in my pocket.

He got a little serious for a second, I know he cares for me, maybe in the same way Howard did. "Call me if you need backup."

I laugh walking to the elevator, "must not be that important if they're not calling the big guns in. Jarvis lobby please." I stick out my tongue to Tony as the elevator door closes and takes me down.
