The moment was short lived. They took my little girl from my hands, stating they needed to run tests on her and make sure she was healthy and perfect. "Buck, go with her. Don't leave her alone." I begged, he gave me a soft smile and a soft kiss. "Alright. I'll be right back doll." He followed our little girl out the room and then commotion fell back into my room. The doctors crowded me again, checking every vital, running all sorts of tests. My exhaustion finally caught back up to me, my eyelids heavy, I let myself drift off into a peaceful sleep.

Bucky's POV

"Buck, go with her. Don't leave her alone." Her voice was a plea, and I couldn't say no to her. She was already such an amazing mother, putting our daughter's needs above her own. I hated to think I would be leaving (Y/N) behind, but I couldn't ever say no to her. "Alright. I'll be right back doll."

I followed our little girl into another room as they began to run tests on her. I watched from a close distance, while I let the whole thing finally sink in. We have a daughter. I am a father. This sent waves of pride, excitement, and fear through me. Am I capable of being a good father? After everything I've done, the monster I was... Looking down at my metal hand, my thoughts continue to run wild. What if I hurt her? What if she grows up to think I'm a monster?

"Buck... What's going on?" I'm snapped back to reality at the sound of Steve's voice. Looking to my side I see him coming up to me, his eyes wide once he sees the little girl before us being examined. "We had a little girl." My lips curve into a smile as I look at her again.

"A little girl... wow Buck. I'm so happy for you." His hand comes to my shoulder and pats my back in congratulations. His grip stays on my shoulder and he asks somewhat carefully, "and (Y/N)?"

Looking up at him, I see worried eyes. I sigh and smile again, to comfort him. "She woke up Steve. She did great... they're checking on her now too." I felt Steve sigh in relief. "She was confused Steve, she didn't understand. She thought no time had passed, she thought she had just recently found out she was pregnant." I let my worries slip through, "How am I going to explain everything to her, all her lost time?"

"Slowly Buck. Obviously giving birth was probably shocking enough, especially if she thought no time had passed. But I am sure she will be just fine Buck. So will your little girl, and so will you. It'll all be okay."

"You're right. It's going to be okay." It has to be.

We both just stood there, watching my little girl as they finished up with their tests. Then a nurse came over with her bundled up in her arms. "Mr. Barnes, she's perfectly healthy. We're still waiting for the results of her blood test to check and see if she might carry the super soldier gene."

"Oh. I – I hadn't even thought about that..." I feel stupid at the fact that it had never really crossed my mind.

"That's fine Mr. Barnes, I know it's been a stressful couple of months for you. Would you like to hold your daughter?" For a moment I freeze, worried about my metal arm and scaring my little girl. Steve must've realized my hesitation and spoke up. "Go ahead Buck. Hold your little girl. Everything will be just fine."

Nodding quietly I held out my hands. The nurse slowly lowered her in my arms. "Mind her head, make sure you hold her head." She whispered softly, helping me and guiding me to hold on to the little bundle correctly. "There you go dad! I'll leave you guys alone." With a small smile she slips out of our view and leaves us alone.

"She's gorgeous Buck." Steve says softly as he looks at her over my shoulder.

"She really is. She has my eyes." Pride oozes out of me as I say those words. I watch her snuggled in my arms, gently cooing as she falls asleep. "Rest baby girl. Daddy's got ya." I sway her softly in my arms and I can feel her little breaths deepen as she falls asleep quickly in my arms.
