Steve's POV

I walk with Peggy to (Y/N)'s room. When we get there, we find Howard standing outside looking rather upset. "Howard" I say as we approach him.

"Took you long enough to get here Rodgers. She's not doing too great." Howard said pretty sarcastically at first but ended sounding worried.

I nod back understanding. He moves aside so there's nothing standing in my way to her door. When I open it I'm taken aback at the sight. The room is completely torn apart, but what stood out the most was (Y/N) crumpled on the floor. Her wings embracing her as she lay there broken and torn.

"(Y/N)..." I eventually find my voice.

It takes her a while before she peers through her wings and looks me in the eye. Her face is red and puffy, sadness completely written in every line.

"Steve..." She barely whispers. I gather the courage to kneel down next to her broken frame. "Steve..." this time it comes out as a sob as her wings dissipate and she launches herself in my arms. The moment she leans against my chest her sobs erupt and become gut wrenching cries.

"I'm so sorry (Y/N), I'm so sorry" I say as I rock her back and forth as she cries her heart out. "I failed him. I failed you. I'm so sorry."

She began to hiccup, barely able to breathe between the cries. But she pushed her face from my chest and looked me square in the eyes.

"Steve... please don't. Don't say that. You did everything you could do." The words came out between hiccups. "I just... I miss him so much. We... we were going to get married Steve. We were going to have a bunch of kids, maybe even a dog. We were going to grow old together. And now... now I feel dead too Steve. My heart belongs to Buck, and he took it with him. I don't think I can go on."

Hearing her words made me realize how much I needed to protect her. For Bucky. I couldn't let her slip away too. She was the only family I had left.

"You have to. For Bucky, for me. You're the only family I have left (Y/N). I can't lose you too." I try to be strong, but inside I'm still the tiny kid from Brooklynn who needs his friends by his side.

She looks at me with understanding, like she always did. Breaking our eye contact she looks down to her lap, she finally gives a small nod. "For Bucky. For Bucky I'm going to make Hydra pay." She finally looked back up to me, her eyes now distant, with a somewhat detached look in them. It scared me to see that look in her eyes, but to her statement I could agree.

"Together. We will do it. Together. Till the end of the line (Y/N)."

A tear ran down her cheek as she said "till the end of the line."

"Johann Schmidt belongs in a bug house. He thinks he's a God. He's willing to blow up half the world to prove it, starting with the USA." Colonel Phillips stated to the group sitting around brainstorming how to finish Hydra once and for all.

Howard interjects "Schmidt's working with powers beyond our capabilities. He gets across the Atlantic, he will wipe out the entire eastern seaboard in an hour." I won't let him get that far.

Gabe asked for our timeline. Phillips responded, "According to my new best friend, under twenty-four hours." Philips shows us the last base on located in the Alps.

I heard them wonder how we were going to get in, joking how we can't just knock on the front door. As soon as I heard that I got an idea and spoke up for the first time.

"Why not? That's exactly what I'm going to do."

Steve immediately reacted, "(Y/N)... that's not exactly a plan."
