Virgil's P.O.V
I turn to look at the person who had touched me only to find the same woman that now owns the Arklay Mansion.
"Did you follow us?" I ask. She shakes her head with a smile and says she'll be working at this hospital soon.
She looks at us with a small frown and asks, "Would you two like a ride home?" I shake my head no and resist telling her to leave us alone. Instead I say that a friend is picking us up. Of course that's a lie but she doesn't know that.
"Are you sure? I only ask because it's pouring rain and it's not safe out here," she tells us. Before I can respond Roman starts to nod off. I want to tell her no again but Roman speaks up instead.
"We would really appreciate a ride," he says, starting to walk under her umbrella.
There are so many things that could go wrong with this. What if she kidnaps us or something? I mean I'm sure I could take this lady if necessary since I'm taller and stronger but that's not the point. The point is we don't know this lady, not even her name.
"Roman, we don't know this lady. I don't feel right going with her. I need you to go with me on this," I explain softly after pulling him towards me.
"I get what you're saying Virge but my head is killing me and I want to get home. Please," Roman says, intertwining our fingers. I seriously don't like this at all. Despite the part of my brain screaming at me to stand my ground, I nod and we follow her to her car. A dark blue Ford Explorer. She keeps us all under the umbrella as we climb into the back seat together and buckle up. Then she goes around the car to get in.
Roman tells her his address and she starts the car. Making sure to put on the heater, which I'm actually thankful for. Because of the rain it takes us a little over half an hour to get home.
She pulls to a stop outside of the house and steps out. After walking around the car with her umbrella she opens the back door and walks us up to the house. Roman tries to pull his keys from his pocket while the woman is talking with me. Before he can get them out the door opens to show Logan and we go inside.
"Thank you again for the ride..." I start to say but I'm unsure of her name.
"Dr. Olivia Jacobs and it was my pleasure. You kids have a good night," she says and then walks back to her car.
I shut the door, making sure to lock it and watch her through a peek in the window. I don't move until I see her car disappear down the street. I turn around to check on Roman but see that he's already gone upstairs.
"Was that the lady from the mansion?" Logan asks, confused. I nod before asking if everyone can help me make sure the house is locked up.
"What was she saying to you?" Kyle asks once we finish.
"It was weird. She asked if I was adopted and if I know who my birth parents are," I say but don't show them the card she gave me if I wanted to find out. My friends look at me weird but I just shrug and tell them I'm going to bed.
I start going into the room I'm supposed to be sleeping in when I'm here but don't. Mostly because Roman and I usually stay up late and I just crash on his floor.
Before I even reach it I stop at Roman's door and open it to check on him.
"Are you alright Roman? Do you need anything," I ask, sitting down next to the already half asleep boy.
"Can you lay here with me?" Roman asks in a tired voice. Although surprised at his request, I agree and lay next to him looking at the ceiling.
"You scared me today," I tell my injured friend softly.
