Logan's P.O.V

"Your father wants us to leave the city. Which means he knows what's happening and that whatever is happening is bad. Also, that it will get worse," I say after my call goes to voicemail but mean it as more of a question. I hope my parents are alright.

"If he does, he didn't tell me and there is no way we will all fit in her car," Virgil says, not really looking at anyone. If his dad did tell Virge what's happening it must be bad. Considering he isn't telling us.

"Did anyone else notice that he said 'things' and not people?" Kyle asks, looking around at everyone.

"Let's just get to our families and leave the city," Erica says, pulling out her keys.

"Virge is right though. We won't all fit in your car so maybe we should go on foot to his house and then we can take his dad's Hummer," Roman says.

Patton suggests that we just split up.

"Virgil, Logan, Roman, Kyle and I can walk since we live nearby while Erica takes the others in her car," he says.

"That's actually a good idea Pat. Is that alright with everyone?" I say smiling softly at Patton.

"All right guys we're heading off. Be careful out there," Erica says as they walk outside.

About an hour goes by until we decide to leave and we've agreed to drop Kyle off on the way since their house is closest. My parents are out of town again but I want to get my stuff.

"Uhh you guys might want to see this," Roman says looking out of the window. We each walk up next to him to see what's going on outside. Roman is standing in the middle, Virgil on his right and me on his left, with Kyle on the other side of Virge and Patton on my left.

Outside, across the street, there is a short woman in her mid-thirties with long curly black hair, in grey jeans and a white pullover sweatshirt yelling for three children to get into a green minivan.

The oldest of the three, who is a short girl probably around 14 with the same curly black hair but pulled back into a bun and wearing black skinny jeans paired with a grey zip up jacket is helping the two younger children into the back. One is a little girl who looks about 6 or 7 wearing black pants, a purple sweater and her curly hair reaches her shoulders. The other child is a boy around 10 dressed in dark blue jeans, a white shirt and a black zip up jacket with short curly black hair.

I'm relatively sure they are siblings because they all have the same curly jet black hair, short stature and brown skin. We watch as a man with blue jeans, a white t-shirt and skin a few shades lighter who I assume is the father attacks the older girl from the passenger side door. He bites a chunk out of the lower part of her arm and she screams with tears in her eyes. The mother runs around the van and pulls the man away from the girl who is now holding her arm.

"We have to help them," Roman states and goes to open the door but Virgil grabs his arm pulling him away from the door.

"No! We need to stay here and lock up the house until the street is clear enough to make a run for it," he says in a stern voice. I turn to check on Patton who is on the floor by the window crying into his hands. While Roman questions why we can't help, I crouch next to Patton and wrap my arms around him in an attempt to help him calm down.

"Virgil what is going on?" I ask but before he can answer Kyle exits the house with Roman's baseball bat.

"Kyle, wait!" Virgil yells but they don't listen and instead make their way across the street.
