Chapter 24: Escape

Roman's P.O.V

It's been a month since Dr. Jacobs and the others arrived. I just woke up and I'm watching Virgil sleep. Janus apologized to Virgil about two weeks ago. He expressed that he knew he was in the wrong and that it would never happen again. I still don't really like him but I no longer want to physically attack him. When Virgil starts to wake up he groans and snuggles closer to me. 

"Come on. You can't sleep all day," I tell him. He yawns and sits up. With Virgil no longer tightly wrapped around my waist I climb out of bed. I grab my toothbrush and water bottle before heading to the bathroom. I'm in the middle of brushing my teeth when Virgil enters to brush his. When we're done we head back to the room to grab our guns. Then we head downstairs.

After eating a light breakfast we head outside with Logan and Patton. They too have their guns. 

"Big brothers!" Ally calls out as she runs over. About a week ago she started calling the four of us her big brothers. We're not sure why other than the fact the four of us are the main ones who play with her besides her parents. 

"Hey Ally," Virgil says with a smile as Ally jumps into his arms. Virgil plays with Ally at least once everyday. The two have become pretty close. 

"Are you going today?" she asks. 

"Not today. I told you I'll let you know when," Virgil says. Last week Virgil was talking to me about how next time we have to go into town he would look at that toy store for a few new Barbie's for Ally. Ally had overheard and won't let up about it.

"Okay. Can you give me a piggyback ride?" she asks excitedly. 

Virgil smiles and leans down so she can climb up. Ally is nine years old and she's pretty small so Virgil doesn't have too much trouble picking her up or carrying her. He walks around and heads over to Dr. Jacobs who is looking at her photo album. I stand and watch him as he says good morning to her. She smiles up at him and stands up. They talk about something as Ally enjoys being carried. 

Logan and Patton walk over to the tents. They start a conversation with the twins Alex and Carly. I walk over to the house and sit on the porch with my shotgun. Soon Ally jumps off of Virgil and runs over to me.

"Will you play with me Roman?" Ally asks. 

"Sure. What do you want to play?" I ask her. 

"Tag!" she yells excitedly. I nod and give her a head start. She runs towards the tents and I follow after a moment. I chase her around the tents for a minute or so. Finally I take it seriously and catch her. When I do I start tickling her sides. She laughs and tries to push me off. 

"Okay! Okay! You win!" she exclaims with laughter. I laugh as well and stop tickling her. Then I stand up and walk a bit away from her. 

"You're it," I tell her. We continue playing tag. 

"Mind if I join in?" Virgil asks as he walks over to me and Ally after I let her catch me. I pull him into a sweet kiss. 

"Sure," Ally says happily. 

"Roman!" my mom calls from the house. I turn to look and see her standing with my dad. 

"Uh oh. Someone's in trouble," Virgil says as he laughs with Ally. I glare at him halfheartedly.

"Virgil!" His mom calls out next. We look towards the house to see his parents standing next to mine. I smirk as he stops laughing. We make our way over to our parents. 

"What's up?" I ask them. 

"We just wanted to talk to you boys real quick," Aaron says as we all walk inside.
