Logan's P.O.V

"Before we leave town we should stop by the sporting goods store for a few more supplies. We will likely be camping for a few nights," Aaron suggests.

"That's probably a good idea," I agree. Virgil nods as well as the others.

"Which car has the most room left?" Virgil asks everyone.

"Ours," Janus responds.

"Yeah. Ours was the last one we started packing up. It just has the two tents we managed to take down in time and some food," Remus adds.

"Okay let's head into town and get a few more tents then," Aaron says.

We all climb back into our cars and head the rest of the way into town. Once we get to the sporting goods store, there is a lone walker. Caden, Aiden, Janus, Sierra, my father and I all park the cars in a way we can leave quickly if need be. Virgil climbs out and takes down the walker with his bat. Then he walks over to the Hummer and grabs a water bottle. Likely to clean the small bit of blood off his face. I turn to look at the others.

"We'll go in," Caden says as he walks over with Aiden and Roman's dad Brian.

"Be careful. The store has been clear the last couple times we went in but that could've changed. Grab what we need. Just a few tents and lanterns," Virgil tells them. He still has the water in his hand.

"I'll go with you. If there's any infected I'll be able to tell you whether it's a walker or a runner. Depending on that and how many, if any, I will decide if we run or not," Roman says. Virgil says something quietly to Roman who nods in return. The small group heads inside.

"Do you want to drive or shall I?" I ask Virgil as we stand next to the Hummer.

"Oh! Can I drive?!" Patton asks. Virgil and I share a look.

"You've never driven the Hummer before," Virgil says.

"I know but I want to try. Besides, wouldn't it be a good idea to have another person who can drive in emergencies," Patton says.

"You make a valid argument. All right. You can drive. Logan will teach you," Virgil tells him. He looks at me and I nod in agreement.

When we're done talking, Virgil walks off. I watch him as he starts to head away from the group with his bat. I look to see where he may be going and I spot the toy store. That's when I realize what he's doing.

"Be careful!" I call out to Virgil before he gets too far.

He turns and while walking backwards says, "Will do!"

He continues making his way to the toy store. I stand there and watch in that direction so if anything happens I'll see it before it's too late. Even though I'm positive that he can handle himself just fine.

A couple minutes pass before he returns with two Barbie dolls.

"Ally. Here you go," he says. Ally squeals happily and hugs him. Then she starts to show her parents.

Virgil walks to his father. I glance at him and notice he has his thinking face on.

"What is it?" I ask after I walk up to him.

"I'm thinking about the lake. It will take us a few days to get there but what if it isn't safe. We need a backup plan," he tells me.

"What did you have in mind?" I ask him.

"Nothing at the moment," he admits.

"Do you want to study the map? Maybe you'll see something I didn't," Aaron says, adding to the conversation.
