Chapter 21: Insecure

Logan's P.O.V

I awaken to the sound of a whimper. I'm confused as to where it's from until I hear it again. 

"Lo.." Patton says from next to me. I open my eyes and sit up to where I'm leaning back on my hand. 

"Pat?" I call softly. 

He whimpers again so I reach over and turn on the lantern a bit. Just enough to see. I look back at him and see that his face has tears trailing down both cheeks. 

"Pat," I say as I lightly shake him awake. He opens his eyes and seems to not realize where he is. 

"You're okay. I'm right here," I tell him softly. 

"Lo?" he asks as his eyes seem to focus. 

"It's me," I say as I wipe away his tears. 

"I'm sorry Lo. I was having a nightmare. I didn't mean to wake you," he says guiltily.

"You don't need to apologize. We all get them at one point or another," I tell him. "Besides. If something is bothering you then I want to help in any way I can. If you want to tell me about it you can," I add. 

"You left and didn't come back. So I went to look for you. When I finally found you.. you were... infected and I just couldn't.." he explains but his voice breaks at the end. Fresh tears begin to fall. "I couldn't Lo. Not you," he adds through his tears. 

"Hey. I'm right here. You'll never have to deal with me like that. I'm always careful. Plus I always have you or one of the others watching my back. I'm not going anywhere and you'll never have to deal with that situation," I say as I continue to wipe away his tears.

"Promise?" he asks softly. 

"I promise," I tell him. 

I'll keep it too. I'll deal with it myself long before anyone gets the chance. Not that I plan on getting infected. He closes his eyes for a moment and takes a deep breath. 

"Thank you. I needed to hear that," he says. I smile softly and finish wiping away his tears. Then I kiss his forehead, his nose and lastly his lips. When I pull back he has a small smile on his face. 

"I love you Lo," he says as he wraps his arms around me. 

"I love you too Pat," I say back. I lay down on my side and he hugs me. I smile softly and hold him in return.

An hour later the two of us get out of bed and gather our toiletries. We freshen up and then head downstairs with our weapons. We go into the kitchen and grab a breakfast bar. We talk about what our day will entail until Roman and Virgil come down with their weapons. 

"Morning guys," Roman says. 

"Good morning," I respond. They grab a breakfast bar. 

"We got a couple hours to kill before we head to the Cumberlin's. I'm gonna do a quick check around the perimeter," Virgil says. 

"I'll come with you," I tell him. 

"Okay," Virgil says. 

"How about we all go? Roman and I don't have much to do," Patton asks. 

"Well we were going to check both streets so I suppose if you guys don't mind you can check Karden Court," Virgil tells them. 

"We can do that," Roman says. 

"Let's head out then," I say.

We all leave our house. The four of us head to the gate and go through, making sure to close it behind us. We walk all the way to the end of the street. Virgil and I are accompanying our boyfriends to the end of the street. There we separate. Roman and Patton start walking towards Karden Court.
