Chapter 18: Surprise Guests

Logan's P.O.V

I stay up all night keeping watch. Everything seems quiet until just before sunrise. That's when I hear a vehicle in the distance. It sounds like it's getting closer. I quickly walk inside and wake up Patton. 

"Lo?" Patton asks as he sits up. 

"Wake everyone up. I think we're about to have unwanted guests," I tell him. He wakes up at that. 

"Living or dead?" he asks. 

"Living by the sound of it," I say and then walk back outside. Just as I walk outside the sun is barely peeking over the horizon. A minute passes before Virgil, Roman, Patton and Aaron run outside. 

"Everyone else stays inside," Aaron says looking into the house. The sound of a vehicle gets closer and we realize it's actually three of them. Finally we see them in the distance. They approach the farmhouse. Roman, Virgil, Patton, Aaron and I all ready our weapons. The three vehicles come to a stop about fifteen feet from the house. 

"It can't be..." Virgil mumbles as he focuses on the first vehicle.

It's a dark blue Ford Explorer. An older woman steps out of the driver's side and though it's been a while and I've only seen her twice I immediately recognize her. I glance at Patton and my friends. 

"I've found you," the woman says looking towards us. 

"Dr. Olivia Jacobs? What the hell are you doing here?" Virgil asks as he steps forwards. He looks surprised but also unsure and worried. 

"We're looking for someplace safe," Dr. Jacobs says. 

"So this is a coincidence?" Virgil asks. 

"No," Dr. Jacobs says, "I had a feeling you might be here." Virgil steps forward again and points his gun directly at her. 

"How?" Virgil asks. She hesitates so Virgil repeats his question. Before she can respond people start climbing out of the two vehicles. A man, woman and little girl climb out of the same car Dr. Jacobs was in. From the second vehicle, a Toyota SUV, two twin teenage girls and an older man climb out. Lastly, from the third vehicle, a Honda Civic, two guys probably my age get out.

"What the hell is going on Olivia? You said these people were your family," The first man says in a panic. He looks to be in his 40's. 

"Family?" I ask confused. 

"Were you lying?" the man asks. 

"No I wasn't Caden. That boy is my grandson by blood. My only family left," Dr. Jacobs says emotionally while looking directly at Virgil. 

"What?" Virgil says in disbelief but doesn't lower his weapon. 

"Then why are they pointing guns at you?!" Caden asks her. 

"Because we don't know you people!" Virgil says. I can see him trying to wrap his brain around what she just said. 

"Hold on now son," Aaron says, stepping forward. "What do you want here?" he asks the newcomers. 

"We're just looking for some place safe. Olivia said she had family at this farm and told us it was safe. We don't want any trouble," Caden says.

He lifts his arm to gesture himself then to the woman and little girl behind him. 

"My name is Caden. This is my wife Courtney and my daughter Ally," Caden says. "From the SUV is Aiden and his twin daughters. Alex and Carly," he continues. "Lastly are Remus and Janus, they're in the Honda," he finishes. 

"Sierra?" Aaron calls into the house. Sierra walks out. 

"It's your farm. Do you want them to leave?" Aaron asks her.
