Virgil's P.O.V

"Virgil," I hear someone call my name. I'm so tired though. After taking my antibiotics for the last few days I feel as if all I've been doing is sleeping.

"Virgil. We're in Calem," the person says again. This time I can tell it's Logan. I open my eyes and sit up.

"Thanks for waking me like I asked," I tell my friend who's sitting next to me on the left.

"Of course. You should have a say in where we settle," he says.

"I really wish you would just sleep and let your body heal but I suppose it can wait until we find someplace to settle," Patton says from the driver's seat.

"You know our fearless leader. He doesn't quite grasp the idea of needing time to heal. He never has," Roman says from my right. I elbow him lightly in the ribs.

"Hey. It's the truth," Roman tells me.

"Doesn't mean you have to say it," I say in response.

"Well if you listened to your doctor then I wouldn't have pointed it out," he says.

"She told me to rest and I've been resting. I'm fine now," I tell him.

"If you say so," Roman says but I can tell by his voice that he doesn't believe me.

"Anyways. Have we spotted any potential houses yet?" I ask.

"Not yet kiddo," he says as he slows down.

We're next to fields on either side. We drive for about five minutes before we see a road off to the right. We turn onto it and it stretches pretty far. We drive only a bit before we find a road that turns left. It's a cul-de-sac. Cramer Court. We turn on to it and the cars slow to a stop. Logan opens the door and climbs out. I go to follow him but Roman grabs my hand. I look at him and can see the worry on his face.

"Hey. I'm okay. I won't push myself. I promise," I say as I put my free hand on his cheek.

"Alright," he says with a small smile.

"Come on," I say as I kiss him softly. When we pull apart we both climb out with our guns and bats.

"How are you feeling son?" my dad asks as I approach.

"I'm fine. Won't be doing anything too crazy," I respond.

"That's good. Heal up fully first," he says.

"What are we thinking?" I ask him.

"Logan and I will go check it out," he says.

"Can I come?" I ask. My dad looks at me and I can feel Roman staring at me too.

"I'll hang back and won't push myself. I'd feel better if I was with you guys," I tell them.

"Okay. We'll take it slow though," My dad says. "We'll look after him. Have the Hummer ready to go just in case," he adds to Roman. Roman nods.

"I'll be right back," I say and kiss him. Then I start walking with my dad and Logan.

We carefully make our way up the dirt driveway. We reach the house. There's a large  wall surrounding the property. It has a gate to drive in and it's open.

"Walkers," I say just loud enough that my dad and Logan can hear me.

"Yeah. I only see like three," my dad says.

"Four," Logan says and points to a girl around 12 years old shambling about.

"I think we should check someplace else," I tell them. They both nod. We make our way back to the cars. The walk has woken me up more.
