Virgil's P.O.V
"So," my dad says as he drives down a two lane road, "How long have you and Roman been together?" Behind us is Logan and my mom. I look at him and tell him.
"Only a week," I say.
"I'm happy for you kiddo. Your mother and I noticed your feelings for each other a while back," he says.
"It took a crash for me to tell him how I felt and even then I only said it because I thought he couldn't hear me. I was scared he wouldn't feel the same. Then I confessed again by accident when he was trying to confess himself," I explain to him the gist of how it happened. My father laughs. I chuckle as well at the memory.
We drive for twenty minutes in the opposite direction of the city my friends and I escaped from. Finally we reach the next city. More like a town really. First thing we do is head to the local grocery store.
"First things first. Food and water. I'll gather the food. You go grab five big cases of water," my dad says as he parks. I notice my mom parks next to us.
"Will we really need so much?" I ask him.
"Yes. Better safe than sorry. Find me when you have the water," he says. I nod and we climb out of the Hummer.
"We're coming with you. I want to make sure you get food we'll actually eat," my mom says.
We all walk to the two sets of doors and walk into the ones that say 'enter'. My father and I each grab a cart that is actually pretty big. Logan and I go straight to the water and drinks section. We find the cases of water and find the packs of 35. We grab five of them just like my dad asked. I use my strength to push the cart down the aisle, ignoring the weird looks from two nearby workers.
"Your dad likes to be prepared," Logan points out and I just nod. Before we leave the aisle I also grab a few boxes of water flavoring that my parents and I practically refuse to drink water without. With all that I wheel the cart towards the food section. We spot my parents in the can food aisle. The cart is over halfway filled with both cans, boxes and a few bags of food.
"Last thing is perishables," my mom says. She walks over and picks out a few things.
"Is that everything?" I ask them.
"We'll probably be here a few weeks at most. Hopefully we'll be able to come back for anything we need. Just in case, why don't you go pick a few junk foods you and your friends will like," he says.
"Keep it under $25," he adds. I raise my eyebrows at the generous amount but say nothing. We wheel the cart to the junk food aisle. Logan and I pick out some chips and some sweets. He also insists on a few healthy snacks. My parents grab a few things for the adults as well.
"Let's pay," my dad finally says. We get in the relatively short line. The cashier gives a weird look but I just ignore it.
"We'll be right back," my dad says as he grabs one of the hand baskets.
My parents leave to the end of the store where I think the pharmacy is. While they're gone the poor cashier starts scanning the waters with her portable scanner. With that done she starts to scan all the food.
"You'll have to bag everything yourself," the girl says to me and Logan. We just nod because it gives us something to do. I only bag the loose stuff and leave the can foods in the cases my parents grabbed them in.
My parents come back from the end of the store with the small basket full of what I believe are medical supplies. Soon all the food is bagged and put back in the basket. The girl then scans all the medical supplies. The total comes up but I don't pay attention to it.
