Patton's P.O.V"Let's start at the end of the street and work our way back," Virgil says as we walk out of the safety of our new home.
"You focus on writing Pat. We'll protect you," Logan tells me and I nod.
The four of us walk down the street in the direction we came from yesterday. We make our way to the first house on this side of the street. There are five houses on both sides of the street.
"Quietly," Virgil reminds us.
We walk off the paved sidewalk onto the dirt road that will lead us to the first house on the left side of the entrance to the cul-de-sac. We walk for only a couple minutes to reach it. The gate is closed but inside we see a few infected.
"The house number is 400. I see five," Roman says. I write that down in the notebook.
"Six actually," Logan says as he points to one shambling from the back of the house. I scratch out the number five and instead write 'about six'. We then make our way to the next house.
"402 and I see three," Virgil says after a long moment of watching. I go ahead and write it down.
We continue going to each house. 404 has two that we can see but the front door is open so there could be more. We see about three at 406. 408 seems to be clear of any infected. The gate and front door are closed and we don't see any shambling around.
Finally we reach the last house in the cul-de-sac. 410. Aaron, Aiden, Janus and Remus are already there.
"We just checked. There doesn't seem to be any infected but the front door is open so there may be some inside," Janus says as he gestures to the house. Logan, my friends and I nod. Then we compare our findings.
We learn that house number 401 has about four. 403 has about seven. 405 has about five.
"Let's go back to 408 and make sure it's clear. Then we'll take care of 406 and 404 for today," Aaron says. Everyone nods along. We start walking back towards it. We reach the gate of 408.
"It has a lock," Roman says as we get to it.
"I'll go back and look for some bolt cutters. I doubt Janus would be able to pick that lock," Remus says and takes off across the street to our new house.
"Janus. Let's hop over and check around back," Virgil says. Janus nods.
"Wait. Why just you two?" Roman asks.
"So that if we run into anything we can't handle I can trip Janus and get away," Virgil says like it's obvious.
"Hey!" Janus exclaims.
"I'm kidding. Once we check the back I want you to get the door open," Virgil explains. He and Janus start to climb over.
"Be careful," Roman tells them as they hop down on the other side.
"We'll be fi-" Virgil starts to say but is cut off by someone.
"Get the hell off my property!" the person yells.
Virgil and Janus quickly turn around only to be faced with a burly man wielding a shotgun. Each of us but Virgil raises our weapons in response. The man has warm ivory skin with brown hair and eyes.
"Alright. Hold on a second. Let's talk. Can we talk?" Virgil says with his hands up.
"You want to talk? Then why are your friends pointing their guns at me?" the man asks.
"They think I'm in danger. Am I? Or can we talk about this civilly?" Virgil asks.
"I'll put down my weapon when they put down theirs," the man tells Virgil.
