Virgil's P.O.V"Dad," I say, getting his attention.
"Yeah?" he asks.
"Each house should have a car there as a getaway should things go bad. We should also have a couple up here for us to get away. There's always the chance we'll just have to give this place up," I tell him.
"Each car should be stocked with only the necessities and go bags," I add. He nods in understanding.
"You're right," he says and turns to everyone who still hasn't left yet.
"Everyone! Time for the backup plan. What we'll do should we have to leave. We have 17 cars. Once I'm done explaining we're going to stock each of them up with only necessities and go bags. Food, water and medical supplies. As for where we'll go..." he says but trails off at the end.
"We'll meet up just outside of Hatham. Our groups are going to be mixed and matched so everyone goes straight to Hatham. From there we'll straighten everything out and decide what to do next. Whether we all stay together or not we'll decide then. Once we're relatively safe," I tell everyone.
"Does everyone understand the back up plan?" my dad asks.
"How will we know if we need to leave?" Liam asks. He's tall with tanned skin, blond hair and brown eyes.
"That's a good point. We need some kind of signal," Denise says. She's short with long dark blond hair, green eyes, and warm ivory skin.
"I own a flare gun," Adam says.
"Good. We'll use that," Aiden says.
"Which route would we take if we blocked off the main road in and out? Not to mention this is where the raiders will be coming from," Frank asks. He's big and tall with black hair. He has brown eyes and sand colored skin.
"Do you think each of the cars could make it through the grass?" Aiden asks my dad.
"Maybe. Seems like our best bet," my dad says.
"That settles it then. Make a path between 406 and 408. Drive through the grass. Virgil. You should take the Hummer and make a clear path they can follow," Aiden says.
"I'll do it now while everyone starts loading up the cars," I say and start to walk off.
"Roman," I say as I walk past him. He gets the idea and follows me.
We get to the house and go into the gate. I walk over to the Hummer but don't get in yet. Instead I lean against it and stare at the ground. Roman walks in front of me.
"You did what you had to do," he says and sounds so sure.
I stand up straight and put my forehead on his chest.
"I know.. I just.. I need a moment.." I say as I close my eyes. I take a deep breath to reassure myself that they would've killed me and everyone I care about. Not to mention the others who have come here in search of safety. I can't break down right now. I have to be ready.
"I'll most likely have to kill again. I know this. I'm just trying to pull myself together and not fall apart," I say softly.
"You know you don't always have to be strong right?" he asks.
"Maybe not but right now I need to be," I respond.
"Please stay where I can see you and for my sake don't do anything that you don't absolutely need to do. Remember we're doing this together," he says. I take one more deep breath before looking up at him.
