A/N: Typos might be lurking around...............
The trip back to the dropoff point went well, some of the operators of Ch'en's squad expected that they will be ambushed once they headed back but luckily there's no such turn of events. All of them now joined up with other operators sent by Rhodes Island along with their mine detection tools. They are using the traditional ones that are basically sticks with some bomb detectors attached at the one end. Drones are also in the air, scanning the outer circles of the site.
Ch'en was standing near the pile of other equipment brought by the bomb squad, gathering reports from the two other recon squads.
"Go for another mile, then pull back." She orders the squad leaders through the radio before turning it off.
She saw one of the operators from her squad approaching, wetness caused by sweat can be seen on the cloth that he wears as a mask.
"Are you done?"
"Just taking a break ma'am."
"Do it fast. The landship won't stop for you."
The sweaty operator nods at her before going on to the pile behind her. The bomb squad also brought in water supply knowing this might take long.
Meanwhile Ch'en quietly observes the ongoing sweep being conducted under a clear blue sky.
The drones slowly hovered above the desert, using its mine detecting features to thoroughly scan for possible land mines and IEDs.
Perhaps I should extend this sweep further along the route. Ch'en thought to herself while in the midst of thinking of possible explanations with the mysterious signal they picked up. She doesn't want anything to go wrong out here, so if it will confirm that the detected Reunion was the effect of faulty equipment, she would consider an transforming this bomb sweeping squad to being the spearhead of Rhodes Island from here.
It's been 15 minutes past and Ch'en calls up all operators on site. The drones were placed on the back of a truck that is outfitted for off-road missions, also brought by the bomb squad.
"Ma'am, there's nothing in here." One of the operators reported as they rallied around their squad leader.
"If there's nothing here then it might be somewhere down the line." Ch'en says to all of them before turning on her radio again. "Site is clear of potential threats. I suggest taking the sweep along the route."
"This is not your call to make, miss Ch'en." Kal'tsit, who was on the microphone at the bridge, strictly tells Ch'en while still sounding calm.
Amiya was out somewhere inside the bridge directing other Rhodes Island operations being conducted at the same time as Ch'en's recon.
"If there are no immediate signs at your current location..." Kal'tsit throws a glance at Y/N who was beside her with arms crossed, silently listening to their conversation. "... then you must pack up and leave the area. Return to the landship."
There was a pause in between Kal'tsit's last sentence and Ch'en's reply, and it was really noticed by Y/N.
"Understood." The woman from the other end answers to Kal'tsit's order.
The feline doctor leaves the line open and moves away from the microphone. She turns to Y/N and their eyes locked. "Are you happy?"
"I said I had already agreed with your plans, assuming they won't harm anyone." Y/N explains to her while slowly moving his gaze away from her.
"They won't."
The other faceless Doctor (Unless his helmet can be considered a face...) "And it's... very... rare... for you to do something for me."
