Fire exchange had been nonstop, neither side shows a sign of slowly depleting ammunition.
Neither of the onis and Rhodes Islanders nor Reunion had the idea of closing the distance between them
"Onyx!" Silesia calls out from behind a stationary shield.
The vouivre being called grits her teeth as four bolts consecutively burrows a small part of their tip into her teardrop-shape shield.
"I can't have anyone to replace me, right?" She asks the other defender next to her.
"You have, but why would you? Hold your ground until you're dead!"
Ch'en keeps her torso and head low as she runs across the blockade, diving to the side of the oni commander. "Commander, sir. Do we have any arts support?"
The oni groans as he pushes himself up and leaned against the shield at the back. "We have, something else. Supposedly..."
Ch'en's frown grows with more anger again. "Sir, what is it? You have to tell us. Is it under Reunion's possession now?"
He takes a deep breath. "I... have no idea."
She keeps silent and tries thinking of any other way to break the other side. The hail of bolts coming from both sides poses a great amount of risk even for an exceptionally agile swordsman.
"I'll come up with something." She tells the oni and sprints back to her position.
"CONCENTRATED FIRE!"
"AIM FOR THOSE BEHIND THE ARMORED BASTARDS!!"
Ch'en gets back and gets down on her knee beside Franka, the latter hugging her rapier while leaned back on the metal shield.
She clicks her tongue. "We should have brought casters here."
While she is irritated, the vulpo managed to keep her cool.
"We did, just not on this zone specifically. Which is too bad.."
"It's like they've learned a lot in, two weeks..."
"True, so, I feel like sleeping, Ch'en."
"What?..."
"What...? Face it, the situation won't change for the next five minutes, the odds are against neither of us. This is going to be a stalemate. And I'm getting bored."
She decides to ignore Franka. Instead, she gazes around her, inspecting all of their flanks from where she stands.
BANG!
The continuation of Liskarm's firing catches her attention immediately.
Three empty magazines dropped on the ground.
"Operator Liskarm, can you see them?!"
"Barely, ma'am!"
"Then I suggest you stop firing for now!"
Liskarm complies after last two shots. Her leg muscles stiffened as she held her ground against a never ending barrage.
"HOLD. YOUR. GROUND!" A voice from someone along the front echoes among them, as did the other shouted commands before.
"— there's no change with the situation on the deployment zones of our teams."
"I heard it all. Thank you for this update. I expect more from you soon, Operator Elysium."
The channel shuts after the exchange with Elysium.
Kal'tsit takes another set of papers to analyze while seated inside her office. The papers contain reports about the layout of districts beyond the government-controlled side of the conflict zone, given as much detail as possible.
