They ran half a mile through the wide road, battling small groups of Reunion ambushers along the way.
The area started to change at a certain point a while ago during the run, and right now, there are no longer smoke plumes.
The structures grew in size as they get closer to the center of the district, which is dominated by high-rise buildings.
(Y/N)'s legs are starting to get weak and heavy.
Onyx pulls out her water canteen and offered it. "Doc..?"
He shakes his head. "No, that wouldn't— ... help." he said while trying to catch his breath.
Due to the changing ambience of the area, it certainly can give the impression like there's no war going on. That you are going through a post-war abandoned city.
The sudden ambushes and skirmishes they have to fight through like stragglers of a dying rebel movement are only some of the reminders to them that they are not alone.
Still, it gives (Y/N) a false sense of complacency. Can't blame his mind for constantly trying to escape all the worries.
His mind starts to drift away as he takes in the awful silence of the ruins around them.
The device in his ear receives a signal, which he immediately picked up on.
He patched the person through.
"Hello. Can you hear me?" a female voice asked.
"I-I hear you... who are you though?" (Y/N) asked back as they ran and begin to have some distance between him and Cyclone squad, and Blaze's squad.
"Just call me Sierra. Tell your guys at the front that you'll be bumping into a platoon of heavily equipped Reunion forces."
Surprised, (Y/N) raises his head to see the elite operator and her team as the distance between their two groups increased.
"Silesia." he called to the kuranta running in front of them, who looked back. He then goes back to the woman on the line, "How far are we from making contact?"
"You get enough time to regroup if you do it now."
Hearing that, (Y/N) gazes at the vanguard operator waiting for his order. "Tell Blaze and the others to slow down!"
"Aight!..." the kuranta said as he panned his head to face forward and ran away.
(Y/N) watched as he go. He presses his fingers on the ear piece again, "Miss Sierra—"
"I'm with the infiltrator team mentioned to you earlier." she said before the Doctor can even finish talking. "Well, yeah, this is a bit out of the blue, but something must have hit the boss's head to finally learn that it's for the best of those on the ground to have direct links to each other."
"You're with the infiltrators, then can you give us all the info you have?"
Blaze and her group are waiting for them up ahead with Silesia. The two aforementioned operators watched as (Y/N) and the others catch up.
"I can tell you that the city center is packed with their biggest guys. If you go there now, I'm sure you won't make it back and expect everyone to be alive." Sierra tells him as a warning. "Another thing is, even if you have regrouped, you'll make contact with the other Reunion armored group I just mentioned before. Do you want to take a detour? I have several routes arranged here."
(Y/N) can hear the rustling on the other end of the line, as if Sierra was pulling to her side some papers.
"We take a detour, and that armored unit ahead of us would come back and encircle us at a later time... If we engage this group now, we might suffer some injuries before even reaching our objective."
