Chapter 24

"I just remembered, shouldn't Franka and Liskarm be back by now?" Blaze asks Jessica.

She and her squadmate is walking with Jessica back to Rhodes Island's position within the blockade when Blaze thought about the two's absence and asked.

"Y-yeah. I know, they should have been back by now."

All three of them pondered on what might have came up with those in question.

Blaze and Jessica both tried not to go on to thinking negatively, but Blaze's squadmate can't control his thoughts.

"Ambushed..."

Blaze slaps the back of his squadmate's neck as fast as if it's a programmed reaction for when he says negative stuff.

"Don't jump to—..." She was about to scold the man when thoughts just came into her mind. "Jessica, did Liskarm provide any specifics about the anomaly they reported?"

"Not much."

Without any prior information, Blaze and her squadmate are left scratching their heads.

"Hey..."

The trio looks in front of them and finds Onyx.

Blaze looked at her carefully, from head to toe. "Who are you?"

"Oh, we haven't met before. I'm with the same team as her." Onyx points at Jessica and the duo beside the small feline stares at her (Jessica).

"A-ahm, that's miss Onyx, she's from BlueWing."

"OHH??" Blaze's eyes lights up with enthusiasm. "She's — so you are from BlueWing??"

Onyx and Blaze's squadmate are the ones scratching their heads now.

Onyx lets out a shy laugh. "I am...."

"Nice to meet you, Onyx! But uhm, let's talk later, you have something to report?"

The vouivre nods. "The enemy isn't likely to begin another assault. And Cyclone speculates they may have something going on."

"Who's Cyclone?" The squadmate asked but Blaze ignores him.

"Whoever that is, yes I've been noticing this sudden change of behavior." Blaze tells Onyx. "And as you might all know, as you are under her command, until she disappeared, Franka has been gone for quite some time now I believe, and Liskarm too."

"Yeah.. we weren't able to stop her." Onyx sounded guilty. "Her eyes were perceptive, she can see the commander in a sea of rioters and armed white coated men. And when she saw the commander she just got right into it, she told us to keep helping the army and follow Liskarm's orders."

"But even Liskarm is not here." Blaze crosses her arms.

"That's right."

"Those two are still gone, whereever they might be...—"

"And the fighting died down and then came to an end shortly afterwards." Onyx added.

Blaze gave Onyx a meaningful look, one that tells the vouivre to not hope for what she might be implying.

"You know, I just witnessed a bunch of coincidences today. Where we were initially deployed, the situation wasn't any better, there were skirmishes on every part of this, imaginary border between the Reunion occupied district and the rest of the city. Then all of a sudden, I got an order from Rhodes Island HQ, that this road shall have its defenses strengthened. And when we were about to tell our collaborators from the local garrison that we are about to move out for reasons I wasn't provided with, the commander of the garrison himself told us to reposition ourselves somewhere else, as they are about to abandon that stronghold as well."
