The following morning Andrew awoke with a huge smile on his face. He couldn't wait to start his first real work day as a general fellow at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. He was excited like a little kid before going on a rollercoaster. He'd never imagined that he'd look forward to go to work when he was a teenager, but now he couldn't imagine something better. Well... maybe there was something or rather someone about work that particularly thrilled him among being in the OR and saving lives.

On his way to work he got into a traffic jam which made him panic a little thinking about being late on his first day. He sat in his car, very annoyed and a little upset until he heard the sirens of three ambulances and a fire truck that made their way through the rescue alley. Andrew unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car, jogging behind the ambulances towards the now in sight coming car crash about 100 meters in front of him. He started running, hearing screams coming from one of the cars.

As he arrived at the accident site he couldn't help but gasp. One car was laying the other way around, another one on its side. He had no idea how the cars could possibly end up in this position but he cleared his mind and made his way over to the car from which the screaming was coming. He knelt down beside the driver's side ducking his head until he was almost lying on the street, looking at the woman in the driver's seat, bleeding from her head but still conscious. "Ma'am you have to stay calm, try not to move your head okay" Andrew said as the paramedics and firefighters approached him trying to make a plan how to get the woman out of the car.

"M- ma- my daughter, S-Sal- Sally please h- help her she's in the b- ba- back please she's just six years old please h- help her" the woman said with a shaky voice. "W- we were on our way to m- my mother and n- now... Oh god". "It's okay, we're going to help you. Can you tell me your name?" Andrew said with a hopefully calming voice. "Shannon" the woman said shakily. "Okay Shannon, I'm going to get a neck rest to stabilize your head and then the firefighters are going to get you and Sally out of here." Andrew said as he stood up and made his way over to the now towards him walking paramedics. "She has a six-year-old daughter in the backseat we have to get them out as soon as possible. Shannon, the driver is still conscious but I'm pretty sure she has a concussion, her daughter Sally is probably unconscious or- " he trailed off not wanting to finfish this sentence.

"And you are-?" one of the paramedics asked as they started to examine Shannon's injuries. "I'm Dr. Andrew DeLuca I work at Grey-Sloan" he said proudly, trying to get a sign of live from Sally. One of the paramedics went over to the Fire Captain to convey the information Andrew had just given him.

About 5 minutes later the man from the car which was still laying on the side was already brought into one of the ambulances and right on his way to the hospital. The firefighters were working on the front door and the back at the same time while Andrew was trying to calm Shannon, who was still trapped in her seat. "Okay Shannon, try to unbuckle your seatbelt, the firefighters are going to get you out now." "Sally" Shannon whined while she tried to free herself from her seatbelt.

"Okay! We got the little girl, she's unconscious but she has a pulse. We're bringing her into Grey Sloan now" one of the paramedics yelled towards his co-workers who got Sally onto a gurney and into the second ambulance.

"Shannon, Sally is alive, they got her out and she's on her way to the hospital okay?" Andrew said. "C- could y-you go with her Dr. DeLuca I don't want her t- to be alone." Shannon said weakly looking at him with pleading eyes. "Yes okay! I'll go with her. See you later" he said with a rather sad but reassuring smile on his face while he quickly made his way over to the ambulance in which the paramedics were connecting Sally onto a heart monitor.

"Okay pulse is very weak, blood pressure extremely low." As soon as the ambulance started driving very fast through the rescue alley, Sally's heart line went flat. Andrew immediately reacted and started heart compressions. "Get me the paddles" he yelled giving constant heart massage to the little girl.

"Okay charge to 300! Clear!" he yelled as a shock went through the girl's body. No change. "10 mg. epi! Charge to 320! Clear!" still no reaction. "Charge again! Clear". Sinus rhythm. They got her back. Andrew sighed in relief giving the paddles back to the paramedic standing next to him.

Just a few seconds later they entered the Emergency Room driveway of Grey Sloan. As soon as the doors got opened he started to move the gurney with the little girl out of the ambulance and into the ER. When they entered the hospital, Dr. Shepherd as well as Dr. Pierce approached him and he started to tell them what happened as well as about Sally's injuries. They got her into a trauma room and started working on her. "Okay. Looks like she has a broken leg as well as a concussion, she is still unconscious so we have to get her to CT asap to make sure she doesn't have a brain bleed and page ortho for the leg" Dr. Shepherd said and one of the interns ran out of the room to get Dr. Lincoln.

A few minutes later they brought Sally to the CT since her vitals were stabilising again so they were sure she wasn't likely to code a second time. In the CT they discovered a spleen rupture among her broken leg and a mild concussion. Andrew somehow couldn't stop thinking about Shannon and wondered if they were able to get her out since she was badly trapped, but as much as he wanted to go look for her he promised to stay with Sally so that's what he was going to do. While he was scrubbing in Meredith came through the door. Apparently she was the general surgeon on call and they'd paged her to repair the spleen rupture.

"There you are. Where have you been I was searching you all over the hospital" she asked as she started to get ready as well. "I was on-site, on my way here I got into traffic and when the ambulances approached I helped" Andrew replied. "Well that answers your delay" she said smirking at him challenging "Was it bad?" she then asked and he could practically feel her sudden mood change as he looked up at her. "Two cars, one on its roof the other one on its side. I was talking to Shannon, Sally's mother, she was trapped in the driver's seat of the car laying upside down, I hope they got her out of there" he said with a sad voice as he finished washing his hands, looking up through the window, seeing Dr. Lincoln already working on the broken leg. Meredith just nodded and they entered the OR together starting to cut Sally open.

About two hours later, Sally was brought out of the OR. Luckily the surgery went well and she didn't code once. Dr. Lincoln braced her leg and Meredith and Andrew repaired the spleen. "Okay, you coming with me?" Meredith asked as they went out of the scrub room. "Coming where?" Andrew said a little confused. "Looking for Shannon you idiot" Meredith said chuckling slightly. And as bad as the circumstances were, he couldn't help but smile at the sound of her laugh which was like music to his ears.

They made their way together towards the OR board checking if Shannon was in surgery, hoping she gets to see her daughter again.
