Previously on I'm Not Ready

"Daddy did leave us...but I want to know daddy more! Please mommy!"

You smiled at her and sighed out, "guess I'll spoil you for now" you turned to Grayson and looked at him seriously, "you can stay here with us, but there are rules that need to followed if you're going to parent with me"

Grayson's eyes tested up with happiness, "Thank y-"

"But that does not mean that you and I are are together now, we're just co-parenting"

"I'll do my best to earn back the love you had given me, for both of you, I promise"

Seven Years Later

"Grayson! It's your turn to take d/n to school!" you called out from the kitchen as you made d/n a lunch for school

"Be right down there!"

"Why does he take so long, I'm going to be late again" whined your now thirteen year old daughter

"You can just say there was traffic" you suggested as you handed her the lunch you made

"Not like they'll believe it" d/n muttered

"Sorry, sorry, I'm here" Grayson said as he ran down the stairs and met you and d/n at the front door

You were dressed in attire to go out on what seemed a date

"Where are you going?" asked Grayson curiously as d/n just looked between you and her dad

"Oh, your mom set me up on a date with one of her clients from her shop" you said as you looked to the side awkwardly seeing that it was his mom who set you up

"Oh...my mom did that...umm, well whoever it is, you'll just impress them for sure"

"Why's that?"

"Because you're dressed up beautifully"he complemented, making a blush appear on your face

"Y-you guys are going to be late! Bye d/n, have a good day at school!" you said as you pushed the out the door and tried to calm down your heart

Even after all this time that you and Grayson had been co parenting and you had tried not to fall for him, he still makes your heart flutter

Grayson drove with his hands wrapped around the steering wheel tightly, upset that his mom had set you up with another date again

"What is up with her?" Grayson mumbled to himself

"Dad?"

"Uh, yes sweetheart?"

"...why don't you just ask mom out?"

"W-what do you mean?"

"Like...you and mom used to be together before having me right? Why don't you just get together now? I know you still like her"

"And how would you know that?"

"I'm very observant, whenever mom is feeling down because she got a bad review on her online shop, you cheer her up, or whenever she gets her period you're right by her side...and I went through your phone the other day and you still have pictures of you and mom before you left her" she muttered the last bit

"You went through my phone?!"

"I was just curious to see what was in it" she defended nonchalantly making Grayson roll his eyes

"I don't think I have what it takes anymore to make her happy, plus she's going on dates again-"

"That's only cause she doesn't want to look bad in front of grandma because she's the one setting her up, I also think that's a way of grandma telling you to hurry up and get her before someone else does"

"You're a very smart girl d/n, have a good day at school and don't forget you have f/s practice after school"

D/n waved good bye to her dad as she started walking into school

As Grayson got home he noticed your vehicle was still in the driveway

He walked in and noticed you in a pair of sweats with a loose tank top, making a list of new orders you received

"Oh, hey Gray" you said as you turned around and flashed him a smile, making his heart skip a beat

"H-Hey, umm, I thought you were going out"

"Oh, I-uh, started my menstrual cycle today, so I called Lisa to say I can't go"

"Then what are you doing standing around and doing work? You should be resting" he said as he picked you up swiftly and carried you to your bedroom

"H-hey, wait-"

"You need to rest, you know how bad your cramps usually get on the first day babe-...Y/N, I meant Y/N" Grayson said shyly as he set you down softly on the bed with crimson like cheeks matching yours

"Th-thanks Gray, you're so sweet" you said as you caressed his cheek, making you both freeze for a moment before you immediately took your hand away, "sorry" you muttered

"It's fine, l-let me get your heating pad" said Grayson as he turned around, only to stub his toe against the cabinet next to the bed

He fell to the ground in pain as he held his foot, muttering curses

"Gray, you're bleeding, wait here!" you said as you scurried off to the kitchen to get a bandaid and some stuff to clean the blood off

"It's not as bad as it looks" he chuckled nervously as you cleaned of the blood from his toe

"I'm sure it isn't, but we still have to stop the bleeding" you said as you put the bandaid on after cleaning the blood, "there" you said as you cleaned your hands with some wipes

As you were about to get up, you tripped over your feet and landed on top of Grayson

You moved up and gasped as you were face to face with Grayson, lips only inches apart

"I-it was an acci-"

"Y-yea, it's fine"

You both stuttered as you stayed in silence just looking at each other

Grayson was scared to make the first move, afraid you'd reject him and afraid that you hadn't forgiven him yet for having left him

Still, it's like his daughter said, he should hurry up and do something before someone else does

He closed his eyes for a moment before capturing your lips in his, surprising you before you also melted into the kiss and cupped his cheeks in your hands

His hands moved to your waist as you were both still on the floor

You pulled away needing to breathe and laid your head on his chest where you could hear his heart beating like crazy

"Y/N, I really want us to be together again, I really enjoy being by your side here at home and it makes me crazy jealous when my ma sets you up on dates with other guys, I want to be the guy you go on a date with, so please, let's give us another try, please, I'm ready" Grayson whispered as you picked up your head from his chest and looked at him

You smiled as you gave a small chuckle, "it took you long enough, you know?" you said as you accepted in becoming his girlfriend again and pecked his lips a few times before pulling away and sitting up as Grayson also sat up

"I'll let you in on a little secret Gray...there was never any real dates" you chuckled as Grayson became confused

"Huh?"

"Your mom thought it would be a good idea to say that she's been setting me up on 'dates'," you said in air quotes, "but they weren't real, I would just eat out somewhere" you chuckled as Grayson gave a relieved sigh

"Thank goodness, I thought I had more competition for your love" he said as he hugged you tightly

"You're the only one for me Gray, I wouldn't want to be with anyone else other than you, I promise"
