Keep You Safe

"Grayson why couldn't we just fly to Jersey" you whined for the fifth time that morning

"A road trip will be so fun Y/N! Plus, you already agreed so you can't back out" responded Grayson as he took your bag and his to the trunk in the back

It was nearing Christmas time and you and Grayson wanted to spend as much time together as possible since on Christmas week you would separate to go with your own families and celebrate

"What if something bad happens? What if we pop a tire in the middle of nowhere? Or the car breaks down for no reason? Or we run out of gas? Or we-" you ranted until Grayson's lips sealed yours with a deep kiss, kissing you a few times

"None of that is going to happen baby, the mechanic checked the car two days ago and said it was fine, the tires are new, and we'll make sure to get gas for the trip, we'll be fine, I promise, nothing will happen to you, ok?" he asked as he now stood in front of you, his forehead touching yours as you breathed in deeply, then breathed out, nodding your head

"Remind me why Ethan isn't coming?" you asked as you took a blanket and two pillows with you to the car

"Oh, he hates road trips" he chuckled, making you glare at him then roll your eyes, shaking your head

"You owe me snacks for the road trip" you said as you pointed your finger at your boyfriend

"Am I not a good enough snack for you?" he teased, smirking as he wrapped his arms around your waist, making you blush

"D-Don't say things like that Dolan!" you huffed, making Grayson laugh and kiss your cheek

"I love it when I fluster you so easily" he continued teasing until you pushed him away

"Yea yea, let's get going lover boy" you said as you made your way over to your side of the car and Grayson over to the driver's seat

It would take two whole days to drive to New Jersey, and that's only if you kept a constant driving time

Once you both hit the road it was smooth driving, you and Grayson talked about many stuff

About each other's first impressions, about the favorite dates you guys had and future dates you'd want to go on, about your childhoods, you guys talked about a lot of stuff

"Hey look, we just made it to Oklahoma!" you said excitedly as you turned to see Grayson yawn, "Maybe we can find a hotel and rest there" you suggested since it was already night time

As Grayson was about to answer, the car started making a weird sound and the car started slowing down on its own

"W-What's going on?" you asked clearly frightened, but Grayson didn't answer since he was trying to control the car so it wouldn't flip

Slowly the car started slowing down its speed until it completely stopped, Grayson told you to wait in the car as he got out and popped to the hood to see if he could see anything wrong with the engine, but he didn't really know what was going on

He sighed as he shut the lid and went back into the car, only to see you worryingly looking at him

"So, I'm not sure what happened-" Grayson started but was cut off by the sound of his phone, coincidentally the mechanic was calling him, he answered and sighed, running his hand through his hair, clearly irritated until he hung up

"What did he say?"

"He said that he accidentally told me the car was fine when it wasn't, that he confused it with another vehicle he had in the shop, I could call Ethan and tell him to pick us up since his flight has a stop in Oklahoma" he said as he was already dialing and telling Ethan what happened

You turned in your seat and breathed in deeply trying not to panic over the fact that you and Grayson were basically stranded in the middle of nowhere with no one to help soon

Grayson finished his call with Ethan and sighed softly, he turned to look at you and saw you looking down at your lap, clearly scared

"Hey, baby, we'll be ok" he whispered as he used his hands to turn your face to look at him

"I'm...I'm scared" you confessed as tears started streaming down your eyes, making Grayson sad at making you like this

"I'm sorry Y/N...I-I just thought this would be something nice for us to do, I thought nothing would go wrong, I made sure everything was ready and still it all failed, I'm so sorr-" he said but was cut off by your lips

"Hey," you whispered "It may not have been the best idea, but I'm glad you thought of it just so we could spend some more time together, I love being with you, I know you'll protect me if anything bad were to happen, which, I hope it doesn't" you chuckled, making him slightly smile

"I'll protect you from any danger, I promise, I'll keep you safe"

"Ok then my knight in shining armor, let's go get some sweaters from the back so we can put them on, cause I'm freezing" you chuckled as you started unbuckling yourself

"Wait! It may not be safe for you out there, I'll go get them" he said as he got out to get your sweaters

As soon as Grayson got out, a man appeared from nowhere and tapped on your window, scaring you

"H-Hello?" you asked as you wondered where the man had come from

"Do you need a ride sweetheart?" he asked creeping you out

"N-no, I-I"

"C'mon sweetie, it'll be fun" the man said as he started opening your side of the door when it was suddenly shut with great force

"The lady said no, so back off!" Grayson growled at the man, purposely flexing to scare off the man

The man looked at Grayson and just ran away quickly, not turning back to look

Grayson immediately made his way to the drivers side and locked the car and held your hands in his

"Are you ok? Did he hurt you?"

"I-I'm fine, just a little frightened" you confessed as Grayson nodded

He gave you your sweater and suggested you both sleep in the back where there's more room since he could put the seats down and it could basically be like a bed

You agreed as you got the two pillows and laid them down in the back, climbing into it as Grayson climbed behind you and put the blanket on you both as he cuddled you into his chest to keep you both warm

"I love you Y/N" he whispered as he kissed your forehead

"I love you too Gray" you whispered as you dozed off to sleep

The next morning Ethan went to get you guys, it's safe to say you flew the rest of the way to New Jersey instead of driving there

All in all, it was a fun road trip while it lasted, and maybe, just maybe, you'd do one again, but definitely not anytime soon
