Emilie and Thomas rushed outside the ballroom and into the rain.
"We've gotta get back to Marinette's, ASAP," Emilie said
"How?" Thomas asked "We don't have our Miraculous! How're we supposed to get there?!"
"It's called a Taxi." she handed Thomas some money. "Get one."
Thomas nodded and ran off to find a cab.
Emilie stood under the awning of the hotel entrance, trying not to get wet. As she did, her guilty thoughts washed over her and she began to cry.
How could I have let this happen? Some Ladybug I am. she thought. Mom trusted me with the most powerful jewels in the world and I lost them. I'm no superhero. I'm a failure
"Are you alright Emilie?" someone said. Emilie looked behind her to find Kagami, holding an umbrella.
"Um, Yeah," she said unconvincingly. Her act fell as quickly as she'd put it together "No, I'm not." She rushed forward and hugged Kagami as she continued to cry. "Those earrings, my Mom entrusted them to me." she said, "and they got stolen and now everything is ruined, and," Emilie continued to sob, the eyeliner she'd borrowed running down her face.
Kagami lifted up Emilie's head. "You just need to become calm," she said. "I'm sure everything will be fine so long as you don't give up."
Emilie couldn't help but notice that the awning wasn't doing much good as both girls were getting drenched from the rain. "Look at me," Emilie said, drying her tears. "One thing goes wrong and suddenly I'm a mess. A clumsy, untrustworthy mess."
Kagami placed her hand on Emilie's head. "Listen to me. You're not a mess. You're actually really great. And don't let anyone tell you otherwise." Kagami said. "Ladybug always says that "every problem has a solution." I don't know if I believe that, but I do believe that if you don't give up, you can overcome any hardship."
Kagami then pulled out her umbrella and put it over herself and Emilie. Despite the thunder and the rain, Emilie felt Kagami's words in her heart. She felt calm and more at peace than she had in a very long time. It may have been cold and raining, but Emilie was nice and warm in Kagami's embrace.
"Thank you, Kagami," Emilie said smiling.
"I'm still new at making friends, did I do ok with comforting you?"
Emilie nodded. "You did great."
Kagami then went back inside as Thomas rushed back. "I think I got us a cab," he said out of breath and drenched to the bone. "But we gotta hurry." he then noticed her smiling expression as Kagami walked away. "Are you ok?" he asked. "Hello?" he said as he waved a hand in front of her lovestruck gaze
"Huh?" Emilie said, coming back to reality. "Uh, yeah! I'm fine! Let's go." As the siblings rushed to the awaiting taxi, Emilie couldn't help but think as to what she just experienced. Her heart was racing more than she'd ever felt before and she couldn't explain why.
I don't know what just happened, Emilie thought, but I feel infinitely better. Thank you, Kagami.
