"You're not really gonna let her go, are you Dad?" Thomas asked.
Adrien just sighed. He removed his glasses and put his fingers to the bridge of his nose. "I don't know, Thomas." he moved over to an armchair and sat down with a sigh. "I don't want to restrict her freedom but I also don't want to have her away for so long. It's just, a hard decision"
Marinette sat next to him on the chair's armrest, placing her hand on his shoulder. "I know. And it's, not just this trip either," Marinette said. "She didn't come home for Christmas this year, and she hardly ever calls us. We're the ones who have to call her half the time. And even when she comes home she only stays for a few days." She looked over towards the family photos to her right and picked one up. It was a photo taken when Emilie was 6 and Thomas was 5. They were with their parents and Louis having a fun day at Disneyland Paris, all of them wearing matching Mickey Mouse ears.
"I just wish I knew why she doesn't want to be here," Marinette said. "I just want her to talk to me. Are we doing something wrong? Are we pushing her away? I just, I don't know."
Thomas went up and hugged his mom. "It's gonna be ok Mom. If I can, I'll convince her to stay. And hopefully, open up to us."
Marinette just stroked his hair. "Thanks, Thomas. But Emilie needs to make her own decisions. Sure I want her to stay, but if leaving makes her feel happy, then I don't want to get in the way of that."
Adrien joined in the hug. "Just don't worry. We may have a problem, but if there's one thing I know about Ladybug..."
"It's that every problem has a solution." They all said in unison. They laughed and separated.
"All right. That's enough for right now." Marinette said, a smile returning to her face. "Thomas, could you go feed the hamster? I'm gonna need to talk to Dad a little more about this and it'll probably be better in private."
Thomas nodded as he went and got the pellets for the aging house pet. Adrien had gotten Marinette a hamster as an anniversary gift when they'd first gotten married and had named it Marinette, after the most wonderful person he knew. After she'd passed away they got a new one named Cat Noir and after him, they had one named Kitten. Kitten was currently getting a drink from his water bottle. While he sipped at the water droplets Thomas replaced the hamster's shavings and filled his food container.
Thomas after feeding the beloved house pet, Thomas went up to his room; only to find a black Kwami eating Camembert on his bed.
"Plagg!" he said.
Plagg looked defensive. "Hey! It's not my fault the best place to eat cheese is on your bed!" He quickly downed another piece before falling on the comfortable sheets.
Thomas stuck his head out of his door as he yelled down the stairs. "Dad! Plagg is eating cheese on my bed again!"
Seeing he was about to be caught, Plagg quickly grabbed the rest of his cheese and flew downstairs.
"Crazy Kwami." Thomas brushed off the cheese crumbles and laid on his bed. He woke up his wrist pad and opened his photo app. His wrist pad looked a bit like a silicone wristband, similar to one you'd get at a concert or a seminar. But when you scanned your finger to the button at the center, a screen would project in midair. The watch would scan your finger movements and move or open the pad accordingly. Other than that, it worked about the same as any smartphone from the past.
He browsed through his photos until he'd found the one he'd been looking for. It was a picture of him, Emilie, and their older brother Louis a few years ago. Louis was taller than the two of them and looked different from the rest of the family with his raven hair and gray eyes. He was adopted as a baby shortly before his parents had gotten married and was six years older than Thomas. The two had always liked to play video games together and used to meet up online all the time before he'd become too busy with his culinary training in China. Thomas thought about him a lot these days. And not just him. He also thought about Emilie, and what she might be doing at school while he was here. He really missed them both and would've loved to have them together again with him. But Louis was in Shanghai training to be a cook under their great-uncle Wang, and Emilie only ever came home on school breaks that would only last for a few days at most. On top of that, his parents were gone a lot of the time due to their duties as Ladybug and Cat Noir, so Thomas had the house to himself most days after school and occasionally at night. His parents tried their best to be there most of the time, his Dad especially, but he hadn't really spent time with his whole family together in a long time.
He closed his photo app and was about to click on his drawing app when his room started to shake. He walked over to his window. "Window, open!" he called, and the window slid up. He looked out over Paris to see ice covering every building and street. Thomas quickly closed the window only to have it broken by the massive wave of ice and sleet coming in. "Mom! Dad!" he called as he ran out of his room and down the stairs. He managed to get about halfway down before he was stopped by the ice coming through the windows and spreading around the floors. It began to freeze Thomas's ankles in place and began crawling up his body. He tried his hardest to fight, but the more he did the faster the ice climbed up his legs and torso.
"Help!" He called, desperate for someone, anyone to help him out of this mess before the ice-covered his mouth.
"Cataclysm!" Cat Noir called as the ice cracked and broke.
"Well, I don't know who did this, but whoever they are they aren't very N-ice"
Thomas looked to see Cat Noir, standing casually with his staff over his shoulder. His costume hadn't changed much since he was younger, but I was now outlined in green and had a zipper around his neck that was shaped like a bell.
"Thomas!" he came over. "Are you alright?! Where's your sister?"
Emilie came rushing down the stairs, clothes covered in frost. "What happened?"
"I don't know, but it looks like an Akuma attack." Chat Noir said. "Your Mom just left. She's trying to figure out what's going on. You guys need to stay here." he then picked up his staff and walked out the door. "Stay safe!" he called as he vaulted away.
