As the exams drew to a close, the date the portkey was set to seemed closer than ever. But since there was only one exam left for the fifth-years, most of the students preparing for the vault got two birds in one stone for studying and prep.
All that was left was to get an O on DADA-which was the subject Dani felt the most confident in. (By pretty damn far.)
"I'm going to get top marks on DADA," bragged Merula as she marched ahead of Ben, Dani and Penny up the stairs.
"Says the person who was told to make a snake disappear, and used serpensortia," Ben argued smugly.
"Says the person who used evanesco to vanish both snakes. This is DADA, not Transfiguration," reminded Dani as they entered the corridor filled with scared students-first-years were lining up in front of the Charms classroom, some third and fourth-years sat on the metal astronomy staircase as they waited for their Muggle Studies and Divination exams, and fifth-years were walking up the steps to DADA.
"What, I still vanished the snake, and I'll get marks for that," snapped Ben.
"I think it's all on the examiner we have today," guessed Penny as they joined the anxious students waiting on the stairs or near the classroom.
Scottish summers weren't that hot, but the air was cooler close to the stone walls around the stairs and classroom (which was nice for the early summer days), and the invigilator let them in pretty quickly (these students are lucky to have me-says someone who goes to a school that has no A/C in the corridors), which Dani saw as a good sign. The written part didn't pose too much of a challenge either, and before long, all the students were back out in the corridor. Unlike most of their other exams where, to save time, students did their practical parts at their seats simultaneously while the invigilator walked around and gave them marks, for this subject, the invigilator called students into the room one by one to do their thing. J was close to the middle, which was nice, and Dani didn't envy Badeea, Ben and Diego, who were on top of the class list, and Charlie and Talbott, who were on the other end.
"How was it?" Dani asked as Penny came out.
"Not that bad," she replied. "Good luck." She elbowed her way past Jae and Tonks and disappeared downstairs just as Dani's name was called.
Dani walked in, and was beckoned to the front of the classroom, where an old trunk sat. It shook a bit, and the lid opened and closed. Dani knew that there was probably some creature inside-and a big (and probably dangerous) one. As the invigilator confirmed this, adding that Dani would have to defeat it, Dani ran the options through her head. It wasn't a pixie, they might be aggressive but definitely not big enough. It could be a boa constrictor or something like that, but they'd already been tested on vipera evanesca in the written portion, and it'd be way too easy. Dani assumed it was a ghoul, which wouldn't be too much trouble for her, but she'd heard a ton of noise from outside, so she decided to cast a shield charm on the classroom so neither she nor the creature would blow the classroom (or worse, the school) up. With that, she undid the straps on the trunk and stepped back.
The invigilator flinched as Voldemort rose out of the trunk. "AV-"
"RIDDIKULUS!" Dani was slightly annoyed that she had to go through this again two years later, but even more so when the boggart deflected the spell. "AVADA-"
"DE-no, STUPEFY!" Dani changed her approach upon remembering how Rakepick said that the stunning spell worked better than the banishing charm when it came to boggarts.
The invigilator scribbled furiously on his clipboard as Dani cast the boggart-banishing spell once more, before walking over and smushing the juggling clown like a muggle squishy back into the trunk for the next student and shooing Dani out of the classroom, who by now was 100% sure she'd got a decent score.
One day early yay~
