Christmas Eve...
"I'm so nervous about meeting the Weasleys, Dani," said Rowan as she climbed out of the portrait hole with her best friend. "You know how Bill always says his mum-"
"Most parents are stricter to their kids and nicer to other kids. Let's just hope that's the case for Mrs. Weasley."
"Aren't YOU worried about anything?" asked Rowan.
"Whether or not Merula will like a muggle gift." For once, the slew of weird muggle stuff Dani kept in her trunk for absolutely zero reason came in handy. She had no idea what to give Merula following their conversation... Until she stumbled upon a canister of muggle instant snow. A bit childish for a 15-year-old, but at least Dani showed up with a gift. (That isn't a howler detailing every time Merula had crossed Dani in the past 5 years. JK)
The girls entered the great hall and went to the Gryffindor table, where the Weasleys were with Merula, Penny and Tonks. "Oh, you must be Dani and Rowan. Bill seems to have had many adventures with you."
"Oh... Yeah." Dani casually put her labelled present on the bench with everyone else's, as did Rowan. "I sure hope you don't see me as a bad influence."
"Molly does... Kind of," Mr. Weasley spoke up. "Your dad told me to say hi. He's very busy back in the office. We need people to hold down the fort now that most of the dads are home for Christmas."
"Then why are you here?" Merula challenged.
"Because the twins were driving us crazy. They'll be at Hogwarts in September, thank God."
"More work for Filch then," said Bill.
"Me and Tulip can have two new assistants," laughed Tonks.
"Oh, NO," said Percy. "I can't tolerate my little brothers-"
"Shall we get to presents?" Rowan changed the subject.
Most people perked up, nodding or responding with an excited 'yeah'.
Rowan winked. "Take the present with your name on it."
Before opening her present, Dani watched as Merula ripped open hers as if she was tearing into the carcass of a dead gazelle. She was clearly confused when she saw a hunk of white goop, but the label on the jar told her enough. She looked at Dani, who turned away to watch Penny gleefully examine the potion ingredients Rowan got her.
When Dani opened her present, Bill came by to watch her pull out a brown hand-knit jumper with a large white letter D on it. "I think I know who your secret Santa is."
"Your mum?"
"Wha-"
"She makes these for you guys every year, doesn't she?"
"Did Charlie or Percy tell you?"
"No, I just... Know it."
They were distracted by Mr. Weasley's reaction to the present Tonks gave him. "Why, a muggle toastit!"
"It's a toastER," said Penny.
Mr. Weasley paid no attention. "Look, it even has a plug! I wonder..."
