"Look who I brought!"

Rowan raised an eyebrow as Dani walked into the library with someone else. "Jae Kim? The guy who keeps blowing stuff up in class?"

Dani sat down. "Can't hurt to have another grand prankster on the team. Plus, Jae's a dealer. Meaning..."

"He smuggles banned stuff into school, which likely landed him in detention with you. How was it anyway?" asked Bill.

"Could be better if Pitts wasn't so mean," Dani rolled her eyes.

"Pitts who?" Barnaby was confused.

"The fat old head house-elf in the kitchens," replied Jae.

"Anyway, we're keeping him, are we?" asked Dani.

"Well, duh," said Bill. "So let's get down to business."

Dani walked up to Professor Flitwick as the Gryffindor fifth-years left their next Charms class. "Professor? Have you figured out what caused Beatrice Haywood to be trapped in the portrait?"

Flitwick frowned. "Must be another curse, to be honest, Miss Jackson. A rather ancient one, no less... I suggest you contact a ghost. They may have lived long enough to understand them."

That night, back in the cozy Gryffindor common room, Dani sought out Nearly Headless Nick about the painting.

"Poor girl, first-year is supposed to be fun," he did a somersault in the air. "But I'll need to agree with your professor, this is another result of the cursed vaults being tampered with indeed! Several years ago-when your brother was at Hogwarts, Miss Jackson-students were trapped in portraits until the curse was broken!"

"So basically further proof the only way to save Beatrice is the next vault?!"

"It would seem so, young lady."
