DINAH

"Are you sure about this?" Dinah asked, her and Normani making their way to the ebony's Camaro.

"She has no idea who I am," Normani answered, "and your friends will be busy getting his things together from his office. I said I'm going with you, and I'm sticking to it."

Just as Normani outstretched her arm to open Dinah's door, the brunette turned around to give the ebony a lingering kiss. Normani smiled against it and held Dinah close before they separated.

"Thank you..." Dinah uttered against Normani's lips.

Normani smiled before rubbing her nose against Dinah's, her hand on the brunette's stomach.

"Your tummy's already growing," she smiled. "How do you feel?"

"A little better now that I know what's really going on with my body," Dinah answered. "Got any tips on how to have a healthy baby?"

"A healthy human baby? Yes. Not so much a dhampir. I'm afraid you'll just have to trust your judgement as a mommy to be."

The two women entered Normani's car before cruising their way into the city. They were on their way to Eva's hospital to visit Joan, Jackie's wife. Eva managed to have her transferred to her hospital after Jackie's death. Dinah also wanted to stop by the bar to check on her girls before heading up to the mountains. Today was the day that Dinah needed to stay strong. Before long, the two women made it to the hospital. Dinah took a deep breath before taking Normani's hand and walking into the hospital doors. A woman at the front desk looked up at them and smiled.

"Morning ladies," she said. "How can I help you?"

"Hi," Normani smiled. "We're here to see a patient by the name of Joan Lin. She was admitted here a little while ago."

"Ah yes," the woman said. "Dr. Eva told me about your arrival. She's in room 213. Take as much time as you need. If you need anything, the extension to the front desk is on the nightstand by her bed."

"Thank you," Dinah smiled.

Her and Normani made their way up to Joan's room. The woman's eyes were down casted as she sat up against her pillow, a young man holding her hand before his eyes locked onto Dinah's. He smiled before getting up to greet the brunette.

"It's good to see you again, D," he said.

"You too," Dinah replied. "How's she holding up?"

"She hasn't expressed much. It's almost like she's numb to everything."

The young man eyed Normani before speaking again.

"My apologies, I don't believe we've met. I'm Jaycee. Jackie was my father."

"Normani," the ebony smiled as she shook his hand. "A friend of Dinah's. I'm so sorry about your loss."

"Thank you," Jaycee said. "I'm going to go get something from the cafeteria. You guys stay as long as you like."

Dinah watched Jaycee leave before turning around to Joan. Her eyes were still down casted before the brunette sat down on the bed. As soon as their hands touched, the elderly woman looked up at Dinah with glossy eyes. The brunette tried everything in her not to break. She wiped away Joan's fallen tear before bringing their foreheads together.

"...you were the only other person he trusted outside of our family..." the Taiwanese woman uttered, "...you know things about him that many of us don't. I need you to tell me the real reason why his life was taken..."
