KEHLANI
The trio had been following behind Daemon and his team on the road for a while now. The ride was relatively quiet, aside from the passing traffic. Kehlani felt the muscles in her back begin to tense from trying to stay on alert while driving. As soon as she felt Normani's fingers caressing her knuckles, her body immediately relaxed. She sighed through her nose before flexing her hand to allow the ebony's fingers to intertwine with hers.
"You okay?" Normani asked her.
"I don't know, honestly," the tatted woman replied. "I just feel...off...like something doesn't feel right..."
One of Kehlani's supernatural abilities was to sense shifts in the atmosphere around her. Whenever the feeling arose, she was always proven right. It wasn't until she followed the line of cars down a specific street that she recognized where she was. Her honey eyes widened in worry as she slowed to a stop in an all too familiar parking lot.
"Shit..." she uttered to herself.
"Do you know if she's working today?" Solàna asked from the backseat.
"I've never known her to miss work for no reason," Normani replied.
"If any one of ya'll find her before I'm able to," Kehlani said as she tightened her holster, "I need you to get her to hide. We all know Daemon don't give a fuck about who gets caught in the middle of his little killing sprees."
The three women got out the car and headed into the restaurant, their glowing eyes hardened and on alert. As usual, Daemon was the first to enter the building in his annoying, overdramatic fashion. Natalie looked up to the second floor of the building and located the man they were after, him and his crew laughing with no cares in the world.
"Looks like he rented out the top floor," she observed.
Daemon let out a humorless laugh before a waitress came up to them.
"Hello," she greeted warmly. "Are you all joining the party upstairs?"
"We are, as a matter of fact," Dameon smirked. "We apologize for the lateness. Traffic is a bitch..."
"Tell me about it," the woman replied. "If you'll all follow me, one of the other waiters will have menus ready for you at your table."
Kehlani allowed Solàna and Normani to walk ahead of her. She lingered a little behind them to be on the lookout for that familiar face. She heard that familiar voice and immediately went over to her. The other woman looked up and smiled at Kehlani, her face lighting up like a Christmas tree.
"Lani, hi!" she beamed. "What are you doing here?"
The closer Kehlani got to her, the more her smile began to fade.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"Kiana," the tatted woman uttered, "I'm here for business...I need you to stay out sight..."
Kehlani's heart sank at the fear in the younger woman's eyes. She gently held her face as her thumbs danced against her cheeks.
"I'll never be too far away," she assured. "I'll find you when it's all over, yeah?"
The younger woman, now known as Kiana, nodded as Kehlani brought their foreheads together. As soon as they separated, she dashed into the kitchen as Kehlani made her way upstairs. She met up with the rest of her team on the stairwell as Daemon strolled his way into the room.
"Jonathan Lyndale Kirk..." he smirked as all eyes were now on him.
The short man slowly turned around before his body froze. It only took moments for him to take control of his fear and play at having a hard exterior.
