Breakfast was divine, as always. The chefs in the kitchen never failed to delight the younger girl and make a smile appear on her face. Her headache had long since vanished with the medicine she had been given, the red-haired male finally easing up on his presence around her. While he did remain by her side at breakfast, he didn't insist on sitting right next to her, choosing to sit right across the table so as to not smother her too much. He knew she rather liked her space, especially when she wasn't feeling well.

Still, he occasionally looked up and gave a somber look as though he'd far prefer to be directly next to her. However, his stubborn and polite nature made him wait until she made a comment on it. It would have made his day if she requested it, not that he anticipated it just yet. She still needed time and confidence to request a thing. That being said, he desperately wanted to hear just a word of affirmation. He had no idea if he was going about romancing her the right way, after all.

Straining himself to eat the meal before him without being fed by her hand, he gave a heavy sigh, feeling a headache of his own start to form. He rather abhorred the thought of waiting so long for a glimpse of his progress with her. The nonsensical amount of time and effort he had invested in her, and he was ruining it with his inability to note her reactions. Groaning, he pressed his hands to his head and pushed as though it would eject the migraine forming in his brain.

Looking up at the younger girl, he found it faded like a panacea, her very presence alleviating his pain. Just a glimpse prompted both pain and joy, conflicting deeply in his mind. His heart was even confused, wondering if it should have been beating fast due to the beauty in front of him or due to the fear of losing her instilled. Sighing, he felt his appetite dissipate quickly, pushing away his plate.

"Is there something wrong with the meal?" one of the chef's assistants pondered, "You had been eating so well these past few days."

"No, it must be delicious. Just look at (Y/n)'s face. I'm just quite distraught today."

Giving a concerned expression, the (h/c) haired girl looked up with confusion. From what she had seen, he rarely had a healthy appetite. Most of the time, especially at breakfast and lunch, he wouldn't even eat. She wasn't quite sure why, but it was worrying nonetheless. Especially since he was always working himself half to death, not having an appetite must have been draining his health.

"Did something happen?" she asked innocently, watching as the hint of a smile made its way onto the male's face.

"Nothing to concern yourself with, my dear. It will all be handled swiftly."

The red-haired male attempted to strain himself to smile in the younger girl's presence. However, after everything that happened, he felt as though he was wronging the younger girl by doing such a thing. He was quite paranoid about the danger confronting her. Truly, he wanted nothing more than to protect her, but was censoring her mind really the best way to do it? He had done that last time, but it didn't work out so well...did it?

Interlocking his fingers, the male tilted his head to the left, closing his eyes in thought. It was dark without any light. It always was, but he was used to it. Still, in times like that when light was scarce, his imagination ran wild as though it was set loose on the frightening world around him. Far from the ideal he always held himself to, in truth he was no more than a pebble falling into that rippling lake, sinking deeper and deeper into unknown depths. What was he to do when he no longer had the energy to float?

And yet, when he opened his eyes, there were two lights that allowed him to surpass the pressure caving around him. Rather, he reached out to them, wanted to protect them. Because, without them, what more would he have? Nami and (Y/n) kept him afloat; let him see the sun above the soaked pond littered with the tears of something he couldn't put his finger on. It existed and yet it shouldn't have. Why was that?
