(Y/n) didn't leave the bedroom for a week straight. She didn't go down to get dinner, didn't open the balcony to get some fresh air, didn't even utter a peep to any maid that came in to clean or attend to her. Even when Shota came into the room, hoping to figure out what was wrong with her, she only stared up at him with unreadable eyes. There wasn't any malice or betrayal in her eyes, just an emptiness of sorts.

He had tried reaching out in any way he could, tried to alleviate whatever was plaguing her. To the best of his knowledge, she wasn't even able to sleep. Knowing the expression she made more than others, he worried for her safety. Of course, he couldn't deny he wanted to save her, to be the thing that filled her heart. He'd always wanted to be such a figure. Still, he knew he was probably the least safest thing she could have been around.

At first, he had tried to keep his distance. He had others send her meals up and tried to make them appetizing to her who had started to eat less and less. However, even her favorites didn't move her, escalating his worries. To this, he tried to combat it by sending sweets instead of meals. As long as she didn't lose too much weight, he could have stomached her nutrition suffering. Yet she had only touched one out of more than seventeen sweets.

The red-haired male only continued to panic, wondering what else he could have done. He went out and bought gifts, hoping to get her attention, if only for a moment. For some, she glanced over, but her interest didn't last long at all, the younger girl only sinking back under the covers. Her reaction wasn't too surprising to him. He had long since known that she wasn't too moved by gifts like that.

So he went on to visit the university. She had always liked to have as many skills under her belt as she could. Whether it was martial arts, cooking, or even learning in an institution like Drisless. Bringing back homework and assignments, he offered to help her with them, hoping to spark her sense of curiosity. Yet, once again, she only glanced at him for a bit before returning to the sheets.

"(Y/n)," he murmured, pulling the duvet off of her with a concerned expression, "Let's go see your friends. Some fresh air would do you good. If you don't have the energy, I can invite them over as well. Even...Ishikawa."

The younger girl looked over at him with a glimmer of interest, panging his heart more than he had expected. Pressing his hand to his chest, he felt it hurting, wondering if what he did was truly pointless. In the end, she only wanted to be with someone like the purple-haired male. Some bright and cheerful upperclassmen who loved other people as much as they loved him and who extended all their energy into their passions. Whether it was the prodigy soldier or the former student council president, both interested her far more than he ever did.

He sighed. How had he been so unlucky to have that kind of person get in the way every single time? The similarities were uncanny. It was almost eerie. No, it was eerie. He had thought so before, the thought only lingering in the back of his head. Ishikawa was everything the girl's childhood friend was to a tee. Or maybe it was the other way around. Although the chances of them having met before were slim, he couldn't have said they were nil.

Granted, one of the two was far easier to manipulate than the other. Ishikawa wasn't an idiot but he sure was dumb. He was too easily swayed by his emotions, caught up in whatever "justice" he wanted to serve. Shota never did understand that. Why did he ever bother when, no matter how hard someone tried, they were only human? No one was born good. That much had been clear from the first years of his life. His parents were greedy, he was easily jealous, Nami was prone to fits of anger, and even (Y/n) was far too filled with curiosity to be only good. And with his stubbornness, Ishikawa was no saint either - though he might as well have been the closest thing to one. That was what was odd. No matter how hard the redhead thought, the younger girl's childhood friend...was flawless. Why was that?
