After (Y/n)'s outburst of shock and awe, Ryota was almost scared to death. He fumbled with the jar, completely toppling it over before darting his eyes over to her. The already crushed coffee beans spilled out, making a mess, but he focused more so on the younger girl. However, to his surprise, she was smiling, hand over her mouth as she stared at the coffee. It was then that he realized his mistake. He had gotten too comfortable and now one of his deepest, darkest secrets was hers to know.
"Is that Urban Grind coffee?" she snickered, watching him light up like fairy lights, "As in four bucks for one hundred twenty cups of coffee Urban Grind coffee?! My, my, my, Ryota, you scrimper, you!"
"It's not like that!"
"Is that why you were so salty about Utepara tea? Because you can't waste a single cent and seeing other people throw away their money like that hurt you physically?!"
"No!"
"And you think that people are so mindless that they would burn money to keep themselves warm instead of buying a jacket?!"
"I told you - "
"I see! It's because of your empathy towards these lemmings that you put so much of a front against them! You're so kind, Ri-Ri!"
"Miss Yasojiro - "
"Ah, maybe there's another reason! Is it...No, it has to be! Ryota, you actually really love - "
"(Y/n) - "
Ryota blushed again, for the umpteenth time, covering his mouth before bashing his head against the counter in sheer embarrassment. He swore he never felt so humiliated. It was only when the (h/c) haired girl was around that he completely shamed himself. He had even made the massive mistake of calling her by her first name. It was disrespectful, but he was far more concerned about her taking it the wrong way.
"Oh, Ri-Ri! If you give me twenty self-warming sofas, I will gladly marry you!"
Like that.
"It's just...is it wrong for me to like this drink?"
"Of course not. It's cute how attached you are to certain things. I wouldn't have you be any other way. Care to share why you like it? For better understanding, of course. And because I'm a nosy little bastard."
"It's the only thing my father could afford when he came over from Umayena," the male mumbled, scooping the coffee into three different cups, "I guess it's just...nostalgic."
"So that's why you didn't like my expensive gift!"
The male shrugged. There was no point in accepting a gift he didn't want. She should have been grateful he had the kindness to keep it in his house. Regardless, he continued to make the coffee, pouring the hot water into the cups before stirring them thoroughly. He then turned to discreetly gaze at the younger girl giving such a genuine smile. For some reason, she seemed to think what he said was endearing.
"Next time, I'll bring you Urban Grind coffee."
"I can buy my own."
"Sure, but isn't it nice to receive something from someone else even if you can afford it? Gifts are meant to show sincerity."
"I prefer words."
"Alright," she smiled, her authentic grin making a nervous feeling boil up in his stomach, "Thank you for the coffee, Ryota."
Taking the cup, she wandered back to the living room, giving a relieved sigh when she snuggled into the warm sofa. Lovingly pulling the blanket closer to her chest, she looked over at the window, snow falling freely. Winter was perfect that way. The warm coffee was a nice touch as well, warming her up even more. Having company was a good feeling, too. For some reason, it was unfamiliar to her, but she loved it all the same.
