After Ryota had called her out into the forest behind his house, a meeting spot she rather dreaded going to, (Y/n) was surprised to find Hotaka missing. There was also the issue of the location, the forest much different when it was dark than when it was light outside. It would have been pretty if it were, but with the dark atmosphere, completely silent surroundings - aside from the occasional creak of a tree branch - and shivering temperature, she felt disturbed. It felt familiar, but not in a good way. Instead, she found herself pausing in place, her legs trembling in more than one way. Sucking in a deep breath, she contemplated whether it was really worth it to meet with Ryota.
It wasn't like he had said anything about why she needed to meet him in the middle of the night. For all she knew, he could have been planning her murder, though why he would do that when she was so much more valuable to him alive, she didn't know. Regardless, for whatever reason, her curious mind once again pushed her into the dangerous unknown. Shivering, she moved forward, flinching whenever her foot would find a leaf to crunch down on.
Somehow, someway, though she would often find herself wanting to back out, she stumbled upon a bench overlooking a cliff. A dim lamppost was the only source of light. It was ominous to see Ryota standing there, not sitting, and it was even more unnerving to see him just staring into the distance. Even when he noticed her, looking back, he continued to stay silent, an unreadable look written on his face.
"For some reason, I thought Hotaka would be here," the younger girl mumbled, trying to strike up a conversation.
"He's on a flight back from Athain. Besides, he doesn't work night shifts for me. At least, not usually."
"Why'd he go there?" (Y/n) questioned, raising her eyebrows while sitting on the bench, still a bit concerned, "I would have thought - "
"You didn't tell me you were an amnesiac."
"Is that something I had to tell you?"
Ryota frowned. He wanted to give a rebuttal about how she had blabbed about it to Hotaka or to Yasojiro, or to, probably anyone else but him. Of course, that wasn't true, but that was certainly how it felt to him. Besides, he didn't like the way she was addressing him. Her tone was cold as if they hadn't been working closely. He felt a bit jealous. If Hotaka had called her out there that early in the morning, she probably would have been all bubbly. Well, he knew she was mean, bullying him with vulgar and perverted words, but he couldn't believe she could hurt him like that.
"So...why is it that this couldn't wait 'til tomorrow? I'm about to collapse from exhaustion and hypothermia."
"You're going to be mad," the male informed her, taking a seat next to her.
"I'm already pretty pissed, Ri-Ri."
Ryota bit back a smile. That was something he could count on having over others. At the very least, he hadn't ever heard her address someone else by a nickname. It was pleasant, he thought, and, if at all possible, he would have liked to hear it every time she opened her mouth. Though she probably thought it irritated him to be teased with a nickname his brothers gave him, it was just as well. He would have preferred to see her treat him like that.
Still, he couldn't smile at the name. It was not a good look for him to do so, especially as he was about to reveal the truth of her origin. Since it wasn't pretty either, he should have shown sympathy for her. It seemed like her lessons were coming in handy. Before, he would have just delivered the news as though it were a report. He also wouldn't have bothered getting her out of the Yasojiro manor as soon as possible.
"Shiratori," he stated, watching her blank reaction to the name, "That's your last name."
Immediately, he watched as an enraged expression crossed her face. She bit down on her lip and lowered her head, glaring at him. Though he had expected she would be a bit cross with him, it still was an unpleasant sight. As such, before she had a chance to yell at him and become even angrier, he began to blurt out everything. That way, she would have come to be mad at Yasojiro and her parents instead of him. It was like killing two birds with one stone, really, turning her against the redhead and towards him. His heart raced.
