Hotaka was struggling, and it wasn't just in one way. His grades were slipping, his social activities were diminishing, and even his typical friendly behavior had been affected negatively. Currently, he was being aggressively berated by his history professor. The man was very displeased with the sudden absence of one particular individual. Perhaps it was because the militant was the closest to her that he decided to take his anger out on him. Or maybe it was just because he could pick on him. The male bit down on his bottom lip. He didn't like the fact he had gotten used to being hated for no reason.

"You better make sure to tell your arrogant little friend that if she ever raises her voice at me like that again, I'll have her expelled!" the man screamed, uncaring that everyone else in the class was observing the younger male get humiliated, "In all my years of teaching, I have never had a student that crude!"

The militant didn't say anything. He just let the professor keep scolding him for something someone else did. Hotaka might have been more irritated if it were anyone else, but he didn't mind taking the fall for the younger girl. She'd been through a lot, and if she had to come back to the university and be yelled at by some pompous ass, she would have snapped again.

Hotaka flinched. It wasn't because the man had resorted to calling him names, knowing he had spaced out. Rather, he had thought of someone else as an "ass". Normally, he might have been taken aback and would have done everything he could have to make it right, even if the other person never heard the curse. But all he could do was smile, a shaky and uneasy grin forming on his face.

"What's so funny, Ishikawa?!"

It wasn't so much funny as it was encouraging. Throughout all her attempts to get him to stand up for himself, Hotaka was finally able to make her wish come true. Granted, he wasn't able to audible call the man something like an "ass", but now he could think it without feeling guilty. In fact, he suddenly felt the ability to take another step forward. It was reassuring to think that, no matter what, she would have supported him. She probably would have even praised him for defending himself.

"You both have no respect for honest, hard-working teachers, is that it?"

"Far from it, sir."

"What?"

"I have respect for honest, hard-working teachers. I have respect for anyone like that. But you're not one of them."

The professor's face darkened at the sentiment, and everyone paying attention gave sounds of audible confusion. None of them had ever seen the purple-haired male say something so direct. Normally, he would have dismissed it and gone on smiling. That was just what he was known, even admired, for. Yet there he was, in the flesh, talking back to an authority figure like it was nothing at all. And though Kenko and Sitri weren't part of the class, they stood outside the door, peeking in out of concern for the recent changes in the militant's attitude. Both gave a look of bewilderment to one another, turning to watch as the male continued.

"With all due respect - which, as previously mentioned is none - I don't believe you are an honest professor or, even, an honest person."

"And why is that?! You think I should cater to your generation's snowflakey personalities instead of teaching you the crap I studied for over eight years?"

"I think we agree on that, Professor Ikehara. You spent eight years of your life learning absolute fucking crap."

The room became more tense after that. Before then, no one had ever heard the militant curse. Well, there was that one time when he was drunk with the baseball team and did it on a dare. But, even then, he had gone and fallen over a table, trying to apologize to everyone for saying such a filthy thing. Kenko looked at his companion with worried eyes, trying to figure out what was going on with him.
