Chapter 26

"Huh?" Toboe says to himself surprised. "As leader of a pack, you have to be calm and detached. And right now, you don't have that. It's impossible for someone to be right all the time you know." Tsume says. "Stay outta my way." Kiba snarls flashing his canines. Tsume growls. "Is that a threat?" My eyes widen. Is Tsume...challenging Kiba? I start to reach my hand out to Tsume, but stop myself. "Tsume, challenging Kiba isn't going to do any good..." I say. He ignores me and growls again. Toboe steps forward, a cracking noise follows. I look to Toboe's feet and my eyes widen. "Guys! Cut it out!" Toboe says not knowing he stepped on a skeleton. But looks down once another crack sounds. His eyes widen at the sight of bones. "They're bones..." he speaks. "Human bones?" Hige asks. "I'm not so sure, I think they're from a bird..." Toboe says. "A bird?!" Hige asks taking a better look at the skeleton. "It looks like...wait, could this be...an owl?" Toboe asks. Something clicks in my mind, before I raise my hand to my mouth with a small gasp. The owl...it was a ghost... At the realization of this, a giant insect pops out from under the owl's bones, making all of us jump. Toboe is able to get out of the way, but Hige didn't, and so the insect crawls up his leg. "Aah!" Hige says and kicks it off of him. It hits into a small rock, and curls into a ball. It makes a certain screaching noise and all of the sudden, thousands of them come after us. I turn my back to Tsume, and find hundreds of them crawling towards us. As the bugs move in, we back away from them, until we bang into eachother's back. Tsume grunts and turns his head to his side to look at me. I look at him and back to the bugs surrounding us. Quite a few of them crawl up my legs. My eyes widen as I kick them off, but more just take their place. "Dammit!" I hear Tsume say right before someone grabs me by the waist and throws my legs in the air, all but two of the bugs clung onto my legs, by biting me as hard as they could. I bite my bottom lip and close my eyes from the pain. I open my eyes to find Tsume was the one to grab me, my eyes widen, right before he rips the two bugs off of me, making me yelp, due to one of the bugs being attached to my face, right above my eye, and close my eyes again. He then flings me away from the bugs, towards a small ledge. But I wasn't about to just stay out of the fight, gathering my bearings, I kick off the wall of rock, and fling myself back into the fight, not as a human though. I land on a group of bugs as wolf, and begin biting them with my own jaws, returning the favor. They screach in pain before green ooze falls out from inside them. When I determined the dead ones, I fling them away and move onto the next. 'YUNA!' Toboe yelps. I turn to him, seeing a few bugs were biting him on the back, he couldn't reach them. I growl and charge at him, jump over him, at the same time as I yank them off of him, spitting them out after, I charge at Tsume next as a human. He had quite a few of them attacking him. He still had yet to turn wolf unlike the others, he kept ripping off more and more bugs. When I reached him, he had already fallen to the ground, but he continued to rip them off. I join in and help him up. One of the bugs who had been kicked off of someone else, flew through the air towards me. I land a roundhouse kick into it, before turning wolf again, and attacking more bugs that came. Somehow Kiba had been able to put Cheza up on the ledge Tsume had thrown me to. The bugs tried to climb up the ledge to reach her, but to no evail. Somehow we ended up grouping with the others infront of the ledge Cheza was on. "Are 5 wolves gonna lose to a bunch of bugs?" Tsume asks with a smirk. I scoff and flip my hair out of my face. "Not likely." I say. "Here they come!" Kiba says. We all bring our wolves out to play and continue to fight the bugs, though we all had our own wounds, we continued to fight, covering eachother's back when needed. The bugs started to get the upper hand, due to us all tiring from constant fighting and lack of food and rest. "Everyone..." the weak sound of Cheza's voice finds my ears. I look towards her, forgetting about what I was doing before, and watch her start to crawl towards the ledge. "Wait...we'll all go...together..." Cheza says standing and inching towards the ledge. "Cheza! What are you doing?!" I accidentally say outloud. Kiba looks towards Cheza immediately. "This one...can be...useful too..." she says and steps off the ledge. Oh no... Before I knew it, I was running through the bugs, towards her. "Cheza!" Kiba yells behind me. "Dammit!" Tsume says following. She starts running deeper into the cave. What the hell is she doing?! I shake out of my thoughts and continue to run towards her. The insects grab ahold of her while she runs. "Cheza! No! What are you doing?!" Toboe yells farther behind us, he must've turned human too. "That way, through there!" she says running towards a drop off where the insects had come earlier. She throws herself down the drop off. "Hang on!" I say and without a second thought, I jump down the drop off after her. "Cheza!" Kiba yells atop the drop off before sliding down after us. Then Tsume, Toboe, and Hige. I hit bottom, before seeing Cheza laying down on the rocky ground, walk a few steps towards her, before stopping at the sight of dozens of Venus Fly Traps, some of the plants had an insect in their mouths. She knew they were there...that they would eat the insects. The others drop down. "Cheza!" Kiba yells before taking a step further. "Wait!" Tsume says. I walk towards her, dropping down on her left side. Nothing happens so the others follow. I whine and nudge her face gently. Her eyes flutter open and she looks at me. "Yuna..." she says before placing her hand above my left eye, which had the bite wound. "Does it hurt?" she asks concerned. I turn human and take her hand away. "Don't worry about me, are you alright? Were you hurt?" I ask. She smiles and shakes her head no. "Cheza..." Kiba says placing his hand on her cheek. "Dont worry...this one is fine." she says looking at him. A small smile crosses Kiba's face. "Thank goodness." he says. "This One heard them. They said they were hungry." Cheza says talking about the plants. "They're plants that eat bugs huh?" Tsume asks. "I guess this means we were saved by Cheza's friends." Hige says. "Hey guys! I see light! It's the way out!" Toboe's voice says. I whip my head towards the openning he pointed at. "I'll go check it out." I say before running. Once outside, I immediately relax, and look around. I didn't think I missed seeing the sky, but I can't seem to get enough of it. I inhale the scent of fresh air, before slowly exhaling. The coast was clear as far as I could tell. "All clear you guys! Bring Cheza, hurry!" I yell over my shoulder once I notice the small lake which was lit up not only by the light of the full moon, but the stars as well. Someone runs past me. "There's water! And check it out, there's moonlight too!" Toboe yells after spinning once. Tsume runs out next, followed by Hige and Kiba who carried Cheza. "Water! Yeah!" Hige yells before jumping in. Tsume stops a few feet away from me. "Look Cheza, there's your water. Now you'll be able to--" she finishes Kiba's sentence. "This One will be able to eat and drink all she wants." she says. Kiba looks at Cheza adoringly. "Yeah." he says. Looking at those two, makes the owl's words repeat in my mind. 'Had by few...but treasured by all...'  What was that owl talking about? I look at Tsume and sigh. Why do I act like that around you? Feeling someone watching him, he looks towards me. I avert my eyes quickly and place my full attention on the full moon. Whatever it is, it's annoying.
