Chapter 51

"And this is where you'll find Jagara's Keep. At the heart of the city." the man says. Cher looks over the map. "What's this?" she asks. "They say that's where the crucible lies, the thing that generates the city." he says. "Crucible?" Cher asks. "The Moonlight Crucible." he says. "Moonlight crucible? I've never heard of such a thing, what is it?" she asks. "Beats me, no one ever talks about it." he says. "How can anyone be so completely ignorant about what's happening in their own city? Doesn't anybody even think about what's happening around them?" she asks. "Thinking only causes more trouble than it's worth. Why should we care about things that don't concern us?" he asks. "Do you honestly think this life will go on forever?" Cher asks. "Why should I think otherwise?" the librarian asks. "If you've been outside then that should be reason enough! Didn't you see what's happening to the world?" Cher asks annoyed. "Ooh yes, it was like a bad dream." he says. "It's not a dream. It's real!" she says. "Trust me, once you live here for a while, you won't care about anything either. Just like the rest of us." he says. Cher scoffs. "Fine, I'll just take this." she says, grabs some money out of her pocket, hands it to the man, takes the map. "Suit yourself but I think you're wasting your money." he says. "Let's go." Cher says ignoring the man. "The sooner you get use to living here, the happier you'll be." the man says. I look towards the Black cat, who peeked one eye towards me.

I sit on a lookout, watching cars and people go by. "Even from way up here, I can't tell where anything is." I say and walk across the narrow rise over a street of the city. As I follow the rise over an alleyway, I see the old man stand up quickly and look towards me. "The old guy made it! I'm so glad!" I say and notice him pulling out his gun. I'm startled at first, but smile at him. He doesn't shoot, just continues to look through the scope of his gun at me. I run away, still on the rise. "Hold it!" I hear him say before the sound of running catches my ears. I was hidden but could still see him, though he didn't see me. I smile sadly, before leaving the man behind. 

Hige's P.O.V.

I run through another alleyway, trying to get away. This place is watching me! I've gotta get out of here! I continue to run, but no matter how hard I try, I always find a camera in the direction I go. My head pounds horribly and I finally lose it and yell out from fear and frustration. 

Tsume's P.O.V.

I stop and look behind me. "Tsume?" Yuna asks stopping as well. I sniff the air. "I smell something." I say just as a wall comes out of another wall near us, blocking the way Kiba just went. "What the hell just happened?" Yuna asks staring wide eyed at the now closed off walkway. "Kiba? Kiba, can you hear me?" I yell. No answer. I grit my teeth and look towards Yuna who looked towards me. "At least we're all heading for the same place. One thing is for sure, I smell flowers." I say, grab Yuna's wrist, and start walking. "Just stay close to me, got it?" I say. She nods and inches her body closer to me. I could tell she was a bit freaked out by this place, even though she was hiding it well. I lower my hand from her wrist to her hand and interlock our fingers, giving a reassuring squeeze, which she returns, and seems to relax a bit. We continue down the pathway.

Third Person's P.O.V.

The woman dressed in armor pours something into a large bowl, Purple steam comes soon after and spills over the bowl, and a smile appears on her lips.

Blue's P.O.V.

"I'm starting to think it really was a waste of money. The roads to the keep aren't marked at all on this thing. Maybe it means that only the Nobles and soldiers can go in and out." Cher says and looks towards me. We sat under a statue of an armored woman holding a staff of some sort. I say nothing, I was too busy thinking. "Blue?" she asks after I say nothing. "Cheza, I wonder if she's alright...you don't think they're hurting her, do you?" I ask her. "I know you're worried for her, you wolves have such a strong affection for Cheza, why do you think that is?" she asks me. I smile and look at her. "It's because of Paradise, she's going to guide us there. At least that's what Hige and the other wolves believe." I say. Cher's silent for a bit. "Wolves will open the way to Paradise...so the story is true." she says finally. "Whenever I'm around Cheza, I feel like I really am a wolf, you know? Back when I was living in Curios, it never even crossed my mind that I was a wolf. Not once." I say. "Curios?" Cher asks. "It was this nice little town, we were so happy there..." I say trailing off. "Do you wanna go back?" Cher asks. "No, I wish I could, but it was destroyed in a fire a long time ago." I say. "I see...I guess I don't have anywhere to go back to either..." she says trailing off. I look at her. "I'll go with you, we'll go to Paradise." she says looking at me. We set off again, walking past a few alleyways as we went. We reach a dead end and stop. "Great another dead end, what in the world is wrong with this city?" Cher asks before sets of footprints find my ears. "S'cuse me miss, are you lost?" One of three guards in Black armor asks, looking at us while holding their guns. two were in front of us, while the other in the way of which we just came from. "No." Cher says clearly uneasy. "What town are you from?" another guard asks. "What do you mean?" Cher asks. "You don't have to hide it. If you all have the proper identification, we don't really care." the one blocking the way we came says and walks towards us with gun at the ready. "As long as you're not from Free City that is." he says. Cher flinches but says nothing. "We're from a little town called Curios." I say. "Did you say Curios?" one guard asks and looks at the others. "It's strange that you would've come from there, because I could've sworn that Curios was wiped from the planet years ago." one says. My eyes widen. "Yeah, it was the first town we attacked when I first joined up." another says. I glare at the men. "What do you mean?" I ask angrily. "We burned every inch of that place to the ground." the first guard says with a grin. My eyes widen.
