JUST LIKE she said, her parents actually didn't mind Kai sleeping over, they thought it was okay since he was the least... annoying one of his friends. Kai lays down on the little bed Kie set up on the floor of her room. "Goodnight, Kai... it'll all be okay, alright?" She says and he let out a quiet sigh. "Yeah... goodnight Kie."

The next morning, they ended up just grabbing quick breakfast food and leaving so Kai can go get his backpack from home before school. And when they got it, Kai and Kie drove the long way to school, meeting Pope and JJ there. "Hey... had a fun girls' night?" Pope teased Kai who just flipped him off, rolling his eyes.

"Wait, wait, wait," JJ stopped them as he held a hand to Kai's chest, "you spent the night at Kie's? Why didn't you tell me you didn't wanna sleep at home?" He asked his boyfriend who just glanced at him. He contemplated telling the truth, that one of his problems had to do with him. But he just shrugged, looking down.

"I didn't wanna burden you." He merely says as Kie frowned, staring at him. JJ wrapped an arm around his boyfriend, "well, stop worrying about that, okay? You know I love holding you while we sleep." He grinned widely. "I'm still not getting used to you talking all sweet to Kai, JJ..." Pope says as they began walking.

"Oh, I always have, I'm just more romantic now that we're together." JJ says, squeezing Kai's cheek gently making the dark haired boy grunt and push his hand away. "Shut up, J." He said but couldn't help blushing.

Kai couldn't really focus in class that much, all he did was sit and write notes with a blank state of mind and a blank face. He would smile or respond to most things normally like others do, but othed than that, he was kind of... at a loss for words, especially his thoughts.

He hasn't even once processed the fact his biological father was back, in his life, living in his home and drinking wine with his mother. What the fuck was up with all that?

She was always warning him about liars like him, that they make promises that they never keep. It was all just made up bullshit now? "Mr. Sunn, can I burrow Pope for a minute?" Kai glanced up upon hearing the man who had walked into their classroom. "We're in the middle of a test." Their teacher simply tells him as he got up and walked over to the door.

"I'm from the Vanderhorst Foundation." He says, looking at the teacher who merely glanced over at his student who looked up. "Mr. Heyward, it's for you." He says as Kie looked at Kai beside her. They had been all put separately except for Kai and Kie, the two were sat a row behind Pope as JJ sat a row behind the two.

Kie watched Pope leave as Kai glanced back at JJ who was also watching curiously before they all went back to doing their test as the man took Pope out into the hallway. Kai went back to reading the questions, answering them as Kie kept glancing over at him.

She looks up when Pope walks back in, he looks up as well, the boy walking hurriedly back to his seat. "Okay, what was that?" Kie whispered to him as he raised an envelope.

"Is that the wheat symbol?" Kie asked and Kai's brows furrow together. "Yeah." The boy nods. "What the fu--" JJ stopped himself when he saw their teacher look over. "Fu... fu-uudge?" He covers up what was gonna be a curse word as Kai squints his eyes at the boy.

He looks away, shaking his head as he now went back to doing his test since Pope simply put the envelope away. They spent the rest of the class, wondering what the letter said until the bell rang and they went to the front of the class to turn in their completed tests, before they began following Pope for answers.

They ended up following him all the way to the library. "Is this a game of tag?" JJ asked suddenly, a bit annoyed. "I don't know." Is all Kie says as they enter the library. "Am I gonna have to beat you with your protractor? What's going on?" JJ asked causing the librarian to shush him loudly. "Seriously, Pope, you are driving me insane." Kie says as she sets down his bag and he turns to face the others.

"Okay, so that guy was from the scholarship committee," Pope now explains as Kie and Kai sat down at the table together and JJ walked around to stand behind Kai, putting his hands onto the back of Kai's seat. "Take a look at this." Pope held out the envelope which JJ took. "Read it." He tells the blond boy.

He opens the envelope quickly as Kai looked behind him, watching his boyfriend take out the paper. "Out loud." Kie tells him and he just stood there, staring at the page. He looked up, glancing from Pope to Kie before at Kai. "I can't read cursive." He whispers so Kai just reached up, gently taking the paper.

"That's okay... I'll read it." He whispered back before turning in his chair and JJ leaned over his shoulder, watching as Kai read out loud, "Dear Mr. Heyward, I am reaching out because I have material evidence that can exonerate John B. Routledge..." He trailed off, looking up at Pope who was pacing back and forth.

He looks back at the letter, "it is of vital importance that you come and meet with me in person at my offices at 27 King Street, Charleston at 8:00 p.m. sharp tonight. Please come alone. Regards, C. Limbrey." He finished reading it. "Charleston?" JJ looks at Pope. "I know it's like an eight-hour drive, plus the ferry. How will we get there tonight?" He asked.

"We'd have to leave right now." Kai says as he looked up at Pope. "I have a free period." Kie merely tells them. "Same..." Kai whispers back to her. "Material evidence? What does that even mean, material evidence?" JJ asked, looking at the letter in Kai's hands.

"It means he can clear John B." Kie explains to him as he looks at her then at the letter "Oh, shit, then we're going to Charleston." He says making the librarian look over at them. Kie sighs, "I gotta tell my mom." She tells them.

"Mine too..." Kai sighs, shaking his head. "Look, if we get it this time, we are not giving it to Shoupe." Kie tells them as Pope types into the computer. "Yeah. No duh." JJ agreed with her as Pope pressed on search.

He sighs as Kie looks at him, "what?" She says. "I'm not sure, but I think whoever this Limbrey person is, they might be related to the captain of the Royal Merchant." He says.
