seventy-seven: Sorry.

     

     KAI LYNCH now walks into the room and saw his mom sitting up, staring out the window. "Mom?" He whispered and she glanced over her shoulder, she looked fine now. Her eyebags are gone, she doesn't look tired or sad. In fact, she smiled upon seeing her son.

"What were you thinking, mom?" He walked over and pulled her into a hug right away. She hugs back immediately, closing her eyes as she rested her cheek onto his shoulder. "I'm so sorry." She says and he pulls back from her, sniffling as he walks over to the window.

"What the fuck was gonna happen anyway? Were you even gonna leave a note or some shit behind? The last few times, you never did! You wouldn't even have an explanation?" He looked over and Aurora sat down, sniffling as she raised her hand, wiping away her tears. "I'm so sorry I keep doing this to you..." She whispered quietly, looking down at the floor.

"Yeah? Are you sorry enough to stop it all?" He asked as he turned to face his mother who looked up, her eyes glossy. "I've messed up too many times, Kai, I'm sorry. That's why... I'm gonna try and get better. You can stay with your d--" "if you say I can stay with that dickhead, Raphael, you're shitting me..." He cut his mom off who sighed, looking down.

"I'm gonna stay with my friends, mom... good luck figuring your shit out, alright? I love you..." He said and began walking towards the door. "Kai?" She quickly stopped him, looking over and he sighs, turning around.

"I love you too..." She said and he just nodded softly before walking away. He heads out the door, sighing loudly. On his way out of the hospital, a hand grabs his arm and he quickly spun around. "Oh, it's just you..." He says when he comes face to face with Sterling who smiled at him, nodding his head softly.

"Hey..." He says and Kai just glanced around, a bit awkwardly. "Yeah, hey..." He says, pushing his hands into the pockets of his jacket pockets. "Are you headed to the bonfire?" The other asked and Kai just glanced away, nodding as he looked around. Sterling smiles softly, "come on. Let me drive you. I'm suppose to meet Ryan, Morgan and Jackie there anyway... I'm the DD tonight." He said as he chuckled.

"Sure..." Kai said as they walk and he glanced to Sterling. "So, you don't drink? Like at all? Even at any of the parties?" The slightly taller one asked, as they got near Sterling's car. Kai is so use to it, a red Ram truck. Memories flood his mind everytime he sees the car.

"Sometimes, I do, but it's always just one beer or always have water on me. I'm always watching after them... Ryan and the others." He said as he got to the driver's side and Kai went around the other side, nodding softly.

In the car, Kai glanced towards the back and then at Sterling who put on his seatbelt, starting the engine. They sat there for a moment, Sterling taking out his phone and all Kai could think about were those secret meet ups, those nights where he and Sterling would spend in private, held hands, kissed, held one another. Suddenly he feels uncomfortable being here, thinking about his wonderful boyfriend.

He felt like he was betraying JJ, glancing over at Sterling who's typing away on his phone. He set his phone down and smiled kindly at Kai. "Sorry, I was just sending Ryan a quick message that I'm on my way..." He says and Kai nods, glancing out the window in thought.

"Why were you here anyway?" He asked as he bit the inside of his cheek and Sterling glanced over. "I brought some food for my mom... She's working the afternoon and night shift. So, I thought I'd be a good little son and bring her some food. My dad is at home, working on his boat or some shit..." Sterling shrugs and Kai nods slowly, smiling faintly.

"Are you the reason why Raphael knew I was coming that day you called? Are you working your magic or some shit, thinking you're helping my family, Conner?" Kai asked as he now glanced over at Sterling.

"In a way..." Sterling says, a small smile is on his face he's trying to hide which slightly fades away. "In all honesty, I just want the best for you... you know? Even... when things didn't work out for us, I still care for you and want you to live the best life you can, you know? Even if it's not with me, I always wish you the best... And I hope we're friends too." He said as he smiled, glancing at Kai who just smiles back.

"That'd be nice... but I don't think JJ would be too happy about that." He whispers and Sterling comes to a slow stop along the other cars parked at the bonfire. When they get there, Kai spots JJ with Pope and some others. He smiles, hopping out and met Sterling at the front of the car. "Thanks for the ride..." He says and Sterling nods, glancing behind him.

"Oh, my God..." He whispers and then suddenly someone stumbled up behind Kai, putting an arm around him. "Hey, Kai, Kai Lynch, right?" It's Ryan Taylor and he's smiling big at Kai who looks at him. "Yeah..." He said, hesitant as he was the one giving him a dirty look at the Summer movie series. "I'm Ryan. This is Jackie Kennedy, my girl and Morgan, her brother." He said as he gestured to the girl who smiled and waved at him as the boy just nodded.

"Hi... um, I'll see you around?" Kai looked at Sterling who nods, glancing at his friends who were looking back and forth between him and his ex. "I'll see you... oh. And you're welcome... for the ride," he pointed to his truck and Kai nods, smiling before nodding to the other three. "Bye guys..." He walked away.

"You're welcome for the ride?" Jackie whispered to Sterling who immediately pointed at them. "No. Don't, okay? I meant driving him here, I went to go drop off some food for my mom and he happened to be there... It wasn't like that." He says and Ryan puts his arm around Sterling, "yeah? It wasn't?" He chuckled and the shorter pushed him off, scoffing.

"He has a boyfriend..."

i like sterling and all but it was more of a wrong person kind of situation, the feelings were there between him and kai but they weren't really meant to last anyway
