sixty-nine: So In Love.

    

      AT THE nursing home, Shady Acres, JJ got out and opened the door for the ones in the back. Pope got out and Kie was about to, Kai behind her when Pope turns to them, "hey, um, actually, I'm gonna do this one by myself." He says as Kie got out, looking at him.

"Are you sure?" She asked as Kai appeared beside her. "Yeah, I can handle it. I don't really need you, so..." He says and Kai looked at Kie right away, worriedly. "Oh, so we're just all one big happy family today, aren't we?" JJ says as Kie got in and Kai watched Pope walk away. "Alright, man. Pick you up in a bit." John B called out as Kai closed the door.

He sighs, now sitting down in the spot that Pope was sitting in, behind John B. They head to Hildare Island, Kai heading in with Sarah and Kie as John B and JJ stayed in the van parked across the street from the store.

"So, what's with you and JJ?" Kie suddenly asked as Sarah paid for their drinks. "Um..." He sighed, taking a sip from his soda, "he thinks I had a... certain dream about someone else, and with everything with Sterling showing up yesterday, he might think it was about... him." He said and shrugged softly.

"Was it?" Sarah asked as they walked out the store now and Kai let out deep breath. "In full confidentiality, between two of my favourite girls that are the only ones I basically trust... Yeah, it was." He said, taking another sip as Kie stared at him. "What? Are you... losing interest?" And to Kai, it sounded worrisome.

Like as if she can now swoop in and take JJ away from him. He looks at them, "Jesus, no. God, no. I-I love JJ... It's just... lately I feel like he is the one losing interest?" He said and Kie suddenly let out a soft snort.

"Dude's so in love with you, I think if you ever broke up with him, he'd literally stop functioning..." Kiara says and he's taken back by her words, looking at her. "Yeah, when you're not around, you're all he talks about... Kai this, Kai that, it's like he has..." Sarah stopped with the way the sentence was going.

"He basically doesn't have anyone else... Just us, you know? So... I guess in a way, that is true." Kai glanced over at the van. "But he's always so cold with me, when... I mess up." He said, letting out another sigh.

"I don't know... it's kind of stupid, but, uh, I always... felt like I was just a second option for him." He confessed and Sarah raised her brows. "Why?" She asked curiously and Kai cleared his throat, looking around. "In all honesty, he had a thing for... Kiara before, so sometimes--" "Kai? What?" Kie cut him off.

She stepped forward and put her hand to his arm, "whatever you think JJ ever felt for me is most likely long gone now... He's all in. With you. He really does love you, you do know that, right?" She says and he looks down. "I don't know, Kie, you're like way cooler, and... hotter, I have a really strong competition." His tone sounds a little bit teasing so she rolled her eyes with a small smile on her face.

"And after everything you two have been through... there's no way he's letting you go." Sarah said and chuckled softly as Kai glanced around, smiling softly. "Yeah, you guys are right. I'm just... overthinking. And too in my head..." He said, shaking his head.

"What about you and John B? What's... the deal?" Kai asked now, looking at Sarah. "Well," she goes on to explain what happened between them. "Of course, I thanked Topper. He saved my life, and I'd put him through so much already," she explains, walking off.

"And you'd think that that is the crime of the century." She says and Kai glanced away, rolling his eyes. Not at Sarah or what she said but how John B reacted to it all. "Tell me about it. All of this crazy shit's happening, and Pope's giving me the silent treatment for not being in love with him." She says as Sarah smiles, looking at them. "And we're the dramatic ones." She chuckled and Kie laughs, "sure."

Sarah laughs as Kai looks at Kie. "So what? No you and Pope? Just like you're always doing for me and JJ, I've been rooting for you two..." He says as they got near the van. "It just... didn't work out that way? Unfortunately..." Kie said and shrugged as Kai rubs her back.

They got into the van and Kai sat behind John B again, looking at JJ who finally, since this morning, looked at him, like in the eyes. He smiles softly and held out his cup of soda. JJ doesn't deny it, taking it from him and taking a small sip. "Can we talk?" JJ asked before he could and Kai just nods his head.

Outside the van, JJ grabbed Kai's hand and just stood there, taking a sip from his drink. "I think with everything going on right now, it's making us go a little haywire... and you look like you don't sleep most nights. So whatever it is, can we talk it through to get it over with?" JJ asked, holding out Kai's soda to him.

"It's literally nothing... I think I'm not worried about it anymore." He said and grabbed the soda, sighing as he looked around. "In complete honesty? I've been comparing myself lately..." He said and rolled his eyes at himself for being such a moron so much lately he's stopped being more attentive to his boyfriend.

"Comparing yourself? To who? Or... what?"

"Kie." The dark haired boy looked at him and that look in JJ's eyes kind of hurt Kai to see. "To Kie? Why?" The blond asked and Kai looked down. "Because... I knew you liked her. Before. And... suddenly you're with me, and for some reason, it made me think... I don't know--" "Think what, baby?" JJ said and sighed, stepping closer, raising his hands to Kai's waist.

"Kai, you know I love you. I always have. Some silly crush I had a long time ago... Won't ever change that." He said and stepped closer to his boyfriend who raised his hands, putting them on JJ's upper arms. "I-I know. I'm... I was being stupid. I know now." He nods, smiling softly. "It's what's been bothering me so much lately... taking my attention away from you." He said, putting his hands up to either side of JJ's neck. "Especially after... what Sterling said."

"What? What did that fucker say?" JJ asked and Kai shook his head. "It... it wasn't important but he basically told me that if you were to get bored of me... go off to be with Kie, I still had a shot with him, that he wanted to be with me. Of course, I-I mean, I love you too and nothing could ever take me away from you, so..." He said and raised his hands now to put them on either sides of JJ's face.

JJ steps back, taking his boyfriend's hands away from his face, "why does... he even say that anyway? Why does he think I'd wanna be with Kiara, Kai?" He asked and Kai blankly stared at his boyfriend. It was going so well.

"B-Because I might've told him it was something that was bothering me? When he... when he explained the situation with those guys I thought he was seeing at the same time as me... And he said that they were just his friends and that he let me think they were his other hook ups, or whatever and that he wanted to be with me again... I might've snapped and let everything out, so he used it against me." He said and JJ just shook his head softly.

"Wow, even your ex knew before me?"

And just like that, the cold shoulder was back.
