𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐲

thirty-nine: Lost.

    

     THE four teens were still sitting in the tent together when Kai noticed everyone rushing to leave, talking about how they found them. Kai looks at JJ in worry and the blond just rubs the back of his hand, staring at his boyfriend.

The four waited a bit more longer and then Shoupe walked in with two other deputies. The four teens quickly stood up and walked over, facing the man who took off the hood of his raincoat. "Did you find them?" Pope asked the deputy.

The man glanced down, "no." He looks at Pope in the eyes who looked over at Kie. "So, they got away?" Kie looks at JJ and Kai as the man just looks down. "We, uh... we lost them." He says and Kai looks to his friends right away. "I'm sorry." The man said and Pope stepped closer to him.

"You lost them? What do you mean you lost them? Like-like, they're gone? What are you talking about?" Pope asked the deputy who goanced up. "They took an open boat into a tropical depression, Pope." Shoupe told them and Kai glanced down, looking over at Kie who spoke next, "so they're dead?" She asked and he glanced at her.

"We don't know." He says and Kai looks at JJ. "You drove them straight through the storm, man! Are you kidding me? Come here!" JJ was practically ready to fight. "I'm gonna kill you, you bastard!" JJ shouted but the blond is pulled back from the other deputy. "JJ! Relax!" Kai said.

"He didn't kill anyone, and you know it!" Pope says to Shoupe. "We're still looking for him, alright?" The man says and Kie grabs Pope. "Pope." She says and begged him to stop as their parents arrived. "Get off me!" JJ shoved the deputy off, turning to Kai who grabs his face, crying now.

JJ pulls him closer and Aurora walked over to her son standing with his boyfriend. "Mom," he said softly, pulling back from JJ and hugging him tightly. Kie's parents go over to Kie, hugging her and Pope's parents also bring Pope into a tight hug, comforting her as JJ realized his dad didn't even come. "Come here, JJ..." Aurora sighed, knowing his dad's reputation and all of that.

And not only that but he was like a son to her and it made her feel better knowing he and Kai were together. Kai put his arm around JJ's waist tightly, sobbing as he rested his head onto his boufriend's shoulder. JJ just sighed softly, rubbing Kai's back as Pope turned to Kie, hugging her next and JJ just held both Aurora and Kai Lynch.

Kai at some point calmed down, rubbing his eyes and shaking his head softly. "I wanna go home. Can we go home?" He asked his mom who nodded, going over to Shoupe to ask if they were free to go now and Kai turns to JJ, frowning. "Please come home with me..." He said, his lip quivering and JJ nodded right away, putting an arm around his shoulders. "Come on, boys..." Aurora says to them and they go over to her car, getting in.

Kai sat in the backseat with JJ, sitting on his lap and resting on his chest with his eyes closed. JJ just held onto his boyfriend, rubbing his back. "Hey, I love you, okay? Everything's going to be okay..." Aurora said to Kai softly when they were inside the house and Kai nodded his head.

"I love you too mom..." He whispered and grabbed JJ's hand, leading him to his room. They got into bed, laying together for a while before JJ cuddled closer to Kai, "I love you. I love you so much, baby..." JJ whispered, bringing his hand up to Kai's face and brushing his fingers through the boy's dark hair. "I love you too... very much." Kai whispered and leaned up, kissing JJ's jaw gently.

He reached up to JJ's face, "I really hope they're wrong and JB and Sarah are both okay..." He whispers and JJ just pulls him closer, rubbing his back. "Go to sleep, mi amor..." He said and kissed the top of Kai's head. Kai tried to sleep but a million thoughts ran through his head and he found himself being the big spoon at some point. JJ had fallen asleep so long ago but Kai couldn't. He stays up and kept worrying and worrying.

"Hey..." JJ whispered, moving to face his boyfriend and Kai glanced at him. "Wanna smoke a bit?" JJ asked, knowing it always helped Kai whenever he couldn't sleep and the other boy sighed, shrugging. "I-I don't know, JJ..." He whispered, glancing down and JJ reached up with a hand. "Hey... you gotta relax. It's fine... It happens. If they're dead... we'll all work through it together. And if they are still alive, we'll know... okay? Because we'll be the first ones to know." JJ tells him and Kai nods, staring at his boyfriend, smiling a bit.

"Now... relax, smoke a little bit of weed with me and we'll go back to sleep..." JJ says and Kai agreed so, lining a towel along the bottom of the door before sitting at his bed with JJ. "Huh... I can't believe this treasure hunt for the gold brought us together..." Kai said, leaning against JJ. "Yeah... I honestly don't know how I got the guts to kiss you when I did." JJ said, bring his hand up.

His fingertips brush along Kai's lips and then he kissed his boyfriend's forehead. "I love you." JJ whispers into Kai's ear and the other smiled as he brings JJ's blunt to his lips. "I love you..." He said and when they were done smoking, they mostly laid together, holding one another until Kai fell asleep in JJ's arms and the blond closed his eyes as well, wanting to fall asleep too.
