𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐲

thirty-six: Outlaws.

NIGHTFALL came and Kie parked the car. "Perfectly focused." Pope says as he got out of the car. "You sure this is a good idea?" JJ asked as Kie went around the front of the car with a flashlight. "She's the only one who can clear John B." Kie says as she and Pope go up the fence together. "Lazt place they'll look because of how stupid it is." JJ called out and he looks over at Kai.

"Are you feeling okay?" He whispers to Kai, putting an arm around the dark haired boy's waist and pulling him closer. Kai looks at him, nodding softly as he got closer to the blond.

JJ pulled Kai even closer until he was practically on his lap, smiling and leaning in to kiss his boyfriend. JJ kissed back right away, putting both arms around Kai's waist now before the boy pulled back and put his arms around JJ's neck.

Kai pulled back from the hug and buried his face into JJ's face, sighing softly. "I want all of this to be over..." He whispered and JJ just rubs his back. "I get what you mean..." JJ says.

The next day, John B was still on the run and Kie was at the Wreck with Kai, JJ and Pope. Pope groans as he wokeup, they used soft supplies that were used in the restaurant for pillows as they laid on top of tables. Kai sat up and looked over to see JJ standing by the door, playing with his lighter. Kai walked over, standing behind him.

He puts his arms around JJ's waist as Pope came over to stand on the other side of the door frame. "He's pinched for sure, man." JJ says and Kai frowns, looking at his boyfriend.

"No. They wouldn't still be patrolling if they caught him." Pope says as he looks at JJ who glanced back at him. "Let's hope." He says. "You know. We were in that car. They're probably looking for us, too." Kie said, catching them off guard as they look over at the girl sitting up on the table.

"Well, if we're gonna be outlaws, we might as well help John B." Pope says before walking away. "So, find him before they do?" JJ says as Pope took out JJ's bike keys. "Pope?" Kai says, confused as he pulled back from JJ a bit. "I'm gonna get gas for the boat." Pope says as he walks over to the door. "Hey, you be careful." Kie says, getting his attention and he paused, looking at her.

"Okay?" She says and he looks over at JJ and Kai. "Meet me at the dock at three. Don't be late." Pope says, giving one last final look to Kie before walking away. JJ looks at Kai who's brows furrow together as Kie got up and went after Pope.

Kai looks back at JJ who shrugs, taking out a cigarette pack which he then held out. Kai took one smoke, lighting it with JJ holding up his lighter. "What did you do?" Kai asked when Kie walks back in. She didn't say anything and JJ looks at Kai again, also as confused as Kai was.

By now Kie has explained the whole thing to JJ and Kai, waiting for their advice or their opinions on the whole thing. Kai was mostly sad for Pope that he got rejected by Kie. He always thought they'd be cute together, especially with the chemistry they have which Kai notices a lot.

"You sure he wasn't just being weird Pope?" JJ asked as they were packing up food in boxes. "It wasn't really the kind of thing that needed interpretation." Kie says as she walks over. "Is that gonna be enough food for them?" She asked.

"For a couple of weeks, and that's all they need, so..." Kai said as he paused, glancing up at Kie who nods softly. JJ grabbed one of the boxes, taking his backpack and leaving as Kie looks up. "Kai, I think I actually hurt his feelings." She said as it was just her and Kai now. Kai frowns, looking at her.

"Hey, don't beat yourself up over it... He'll come around. I know he will." He says as he grabs the other box, following after Kie. "I hate to admit it, but I miss the old Pope." She says as they approach her car with the back open. JJ was sitting the back seat of the car and Kie sets down the food in the back. "At least I knew what to expect from him." Kie says as her mom walked over.

"Where you been?" She asked as Kai shut the back of the car, walking around to the passenger seat kind of awkwardly and hopping in. "What's going on?" JJ looks out the window and Kai looks at him. "Her mom." Kai explained and then Kie got into the driver's seat. "Have you seen the storm coming it? It's not safe." Her mom says.

"I'm sorry, mom. I have to go!" Kie says as she got in. "These cops are armed, Kiara. You're gonna get shot." Her mom said, sounding worried. "I have to go!" Kie says. "I am not letting you do this!" Her mom says, keeping the car door open. "Mom, John B needs me!" Kie shouts suddenly. "Kiara. You need to stay right here." Her mom refused.

"I understand. I'll be careful." Kie said, shutting the door and her mom kept trying to convince her anyway. "Sorry! I'm sorry." Kie kept saying as she put the car into drive, heading off and Kai glanced over at the girl. She looked upset, staring straight ahead as he was driving.

He glanced to the back to see JJ was staring down, fiddling with his backpack with his fingers and Kai glanced over at Kie. "You alright?" He asked, reaching out and rubbing her back. She just nodded quickly, sniffling a bit and glancing to the side. Kai nods, looking to the front as well, at the road as they head off to JJ's house.
