𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐲

twenty-seven: C.H.U.D.

    

     THE boys stayed there, hiding as the girls left to go turn off the light. "They said when Hollis disappeared—" "that you should shut the eff up!" Pope cut off JJ in a whispered hush. JJ looked at John B and whistled lowly.

"Yeah, take it down a notch, JJ." Kai whispered and nudged his shoulder with the other's. "Okay, Kai."JJ said and nudged his shoulder right back. "Stop." Kai says right away, glaring at him.

And then the light went out. "They did it. Go time." John B says. "So let's do it." Pope said as Kai nods. "Three, two..." JJ got up before John B even finished. "Just— just go." He says to Pope and Kai who were the only ones waiting before they got up as well and followed after JJ.

They went down to the basement and walked over to the well, JJ putting one foot up onto the ledge. "Holy crap, you know what this is?" JJ looked at Kai and John B. "It just hit me. Kai, Pope, look." He said and pulled down the scarf he had over his mouth and nose. "This is C.H.U.D. Full C.H.U.D." He smiled widely and John B looks at Pope and Kai. "What is he talking about?" He asks.

"Cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers. Have you guys not seen that?" Kai looked at Pope and John B, confused. "No." John B shakes his head. "Can't say I have, no." Pope said as he sighed. "It's actually a good film. Kai and I watch it a lot." JJ said and Kai smiled at the blond.

"It's about, like, cannibals that live in the sewers." JJ says. "And under New York City, and it's like—" Kai paused on explaining when he saw John B's face. "Sorry." He looked away. "Alright, how deep do you think this is, Pope?" John B asked as they continued setting it all up. "That's what she said." Kai whispered as Pope sighs.

"I don't know." He truthfully answered John B, looking to him. They start slowly lowering John B down the well, all three of them. "Hey, boys. I have one request." He says. "Yeah?" They all say. "Don't drop me." He whispers and Kai chuckled before JJ pretend sto let go of the rope only to grab onto it tightly. "Okay, dude. You're gonna die first, for sure." John B says to JJ.

"Got ya," JJ just says in a quiet voice. "Alright, just keep paying it out nice and slow like that." Pope says and Kai looks at JJ, both of them grinning. "Nice and slow." They say in sync before they chuckle quietly together. "Wait, hold on one sec, I'm gonna get situated." JJ said and Kai looks at him. "You good?" Pope asked the blond boy.

"Need any help?" Kai asked but then JJ fell, letting go of the rope as Pope lost grip of it and so did Kai. "Oh, shit! John, shit!" Pope said as they all tried to grab onto the rope. "Jesus..." Kai panted softly as he took a firm grip of the rope.

Pope groans, "JB! Are you okay?" Kai called out. "I told you not to drop me!" John B shouted up the well and Kai sighed. "You good, man?" Pope asked, looking down the well as John B looks up. "What the hell was that?" He asked him.

"Little technical difficulties." Pope told him. "Keep going, slow!" John B says and Pope looks down. "Okay, we're gonna start paying you out again, alright?" He says and the boys did so, slowly lowering John B down once more.

"Hey, hey. We got 15 feet left. Are you getting close to the bottom?" Pope asked John B. "I can't tell." The teen answered him. "Just keep going." John B says and Pope looked at JJ. "Give me more." He says and JJ nods, "yeah." He says.

"Woah! Stop." John B called out so the boys stopped him there. "I'm hanging over some sewage-water looking shit." John B told them. "You want back up?" Pope asked. "Keep going, I guess..." John B replied back but sounded unsure. "Nice and slow..." JJ said as they continued more. "Okay, I'm at bottom." John B says before JJ and Kai go over to the well. "How is it down there?" Kai asked, looking down as well as JJ beside him.

"It's worse than I thought."

The boys waited, "You find any gold?" JJ asked. "Uh, nothing yet." John B answered and JJ looked towards Kai and Pope who both look back at him at the same time. "JJ! Hey, pull me up! Pull me up! Come on, man! Go!" John B shouted out suddenly, sounding terrified. "Pull him up! Come on, pull him up!" Pope told JJ and Kai who quickly grab the rope so they can start pulling John B up.

They kept pulling the boy up until John B shouted again. "Wait, wait, wait, wait!" He called out so they stopped, looking at each other confused. "Hey, I think I found something." John B called out, suddenly sounding calm.

Kai rolled his eyes, sighing. "Hey, John B! What'd you say?" Pope looked over the well. "Just give me a minute. Hold on." Kai looked towards JJ, taking a seat onto the ground as they waited. "John B, you okay?" JJ called out to him.

"Any dead bodies?" He added and Kai smacks his arm. "Why isn't he answering?" Kai asked with worry as he looked down the well. "Guys!" Sarah ran in. "Guys!" Kie sounded scared. "What's going on?" Pope asked the two girls.

"Mrs. Ctain! She's up there! She tried to kill us with a fire poker, guys. We gotta get the fuck out of here." Kie said, sounding out of breath as Sarah was bent over before she stood up. "We locked her in the parlor, but we gotta go." Sarah said and the boys all nod. "Okay, code red. That's code red! Hey, John B. Get back on, man!" JJ shouts.

"JJ! Hold on, man! I'm coming!"

The group of five teens got ready before attempting pulling John B up together only to realize John B hasn't even gotten back on the rope yet as they fell back. "Shit! Where the hell is he?" Pope exclaims. "John B!" They all crawl over to the well. "Sh! Sh!" Kie told the boys who were shouting for John B. "I found the gold!" John B yells.

"What's he saying?"

"JJ! Kai! Pope! Kie!"

"Yo, he's drowning! We gotta pull him up!" Sarah shouts and they all rush to try and pull John B up again. "Hey, John B! Get back on the rope. We're gonna pull you back up, okay, buddy?" Pope shouts down the well. "Come on!"

"Okay, I'm on!"

The teens began pulling, when a gunshot went off, the girls screaming as they were frightened by it almost hitting them. "Shit! Hang on!" Pope shouts. "Pope! JJ! What the hell?" John B shouted. "Climb up!" JJ shouts as he tied the rope to the side before running to hide with Pope and Kai. Kai felt safer when he felt JJ put his arm over him as they were hiding. JJ and Pope quickly got up, JJ pulling Kai up with him, heading for the exit.

They all run to get into the van and when they were finally in the van, Kai went to JJ's side right away, grabbing his arm and hugging it closely to him with his cheek against JJ's shoulder. Another gunshot went off making Kai's eyes widen. "Why are we always getting shot at?!"

They all looked at John B as Pope drove, all of them rambling about Mrs. Crain until they noticed what was John B's hand as he was wiping off the mud from it. "We're gonna be rich!" Kie exclaimed as they were freaking out over the gold. "Full Kook! Full Kook! Full Kook!" They all chanted together as JJ put his arms around Kai, pulling him closer for a kiss on the lips which shocks him.

They weren't much for PDA but he accepted it anyway, kissing back before he pulled away, smiling widely with his boyfriend's arms around him as they were all cheerful at that moment.
