Charlie slowly turned when he heard the quiet padding and tap tap tap of claws on the floor.

"Sharpclaw?"

"Charlie? I, um... wanted to ask what's up with Dr. Collingwood. I haven't heard from her lately."

"It's..." Charlie sighed. I shouldn't lie to him.

"Sharpclaw, you see... Molly fell into a coma two months ago and won't wake up. And we don't know why."

The youth was quite for a moment.

"Is she okay?"

"She seems to be doing fine for now. But I'm not sure how long that'll last."

Charlie stiffened when he heard Sharpclaw whimper. "Sharpclaw? Are you alright?"

"I wish I could do something," said the little one wistfully. "She's such a nice person. What did she ever do to deserve a life like this? It's not fair! Bloodfang's wrath was more than enough!"

Charlie sighed. "Life is not always fair or just, Sharpclaw. Don't burden yourself with such matters. In a place like this, they're inevitable and common. It's sad and harsh, but it's true."

Sharpclaw hung his head.

"Hey, Sharpclaw! Get your tail over here! You're gonna miss out! Elder Vermillion Dragon's telling the tale of Xu'pol, the greatest hero in all of legend!"

"Alright, I'm coming."

Sharpclaw turned into the direction of his friend's voice and ran off. Charlie slumped against the wall.

He grows up so fast.
