Dr. Collingwood looked around the empty room. She was handcuffed and tied to a chair.
Footsteps drew closer outside, until they stopped. The door opened, revealing a thin man with sallow skin and a five o' clock shadow. He was surrounded by guards holding guns. He put his hands on his hips and looked her over, his eyes lingering on her scars.
"Mm, cripsy," he said jokingly.
She said nothing, but gave him a withering glare. How funny would it be if I splashed gasoline on you, set you on fire, and then threw you off a five-story building?
"So, I might as well not waste any more time," said the man. He walked up to her and suddenly grabbed her head in both hands with a crushing grip. Everything went black as she felt a crushing force try to seize her mind.
Evan watched as Terov did his work. The man's eyes were closed and his brow furrowed in concentration.
Suddenly his whole body began to shake. His eyes shot open and stared, unseeing, right through everything.
Terov began to scream and threw himself backwards, breaking his connection with her mind. He clutched his head as he lay curled in a ball upon the floor. The scientist looked down one him, face as unreadable as a clear sky.
