"Hey, you guys, what's up with Lawrence? He's been avoiding me all day and wearing his helmet a lot." Carson leaned against the wall, staring up at the ceiling.
"I don't know. He's been pretty down ever since Dr. Collingwood... you know," Eddie replied.
John was a little surprised. Carson almost never talked to any of them unless they were Billy or Eddie, and when he did it was always snarkery. Dr. Collingwood had told him that he'd left Lawrence behind in the "Mother in the Ice" incident. From what he knew, Lawrence had wanted to save the shaman suffering from the Mother's wrath, while Carson just wanted to get out of there and tried to convince Lawrence to do the same, but failed. Not that he blamed him. Lawrence could be more stubborn than a mule.
He personally thought that Carson should've just dragged Lawrence out by his hoodie.
Charlie sighed and shook his head. Her condition had hit all of them hard. Simon swung between crippling depression to raging anger and back again at the drop of a hat. Eddie sulked around, never singing or making jokes anymore. Billy and John seemed to be the only ones who were functioning, but even then they barely socialized with anyone other than each other.
"Carson, you okay? You don't sound all too happy." John stretched his arms and shoulders a bit.
"I work here. Do you expect me to be all that happy?"
"Dr. Collingwood managed it."
"Look, man, I'm worried about Lawrence. He's been sinking deeper and deeper. At this rate, he'll probably turn to drinking, if he hasn't already. I hope he doesn't."
Billy rubbed his eyes. "Me too, Carson. Me too."
