Lawrence opened his eyes a crack, then shut them immediately against the blinding light.

"Hey, Lawrence? You awake, bud?"

He slightly opened one eye and turned his head. His neck felt stiff as wood. "Carson?"

"Yup, it's me. I got Billy, Eddie, and John with me too."

"Hey, Lawrence," Eddie's voice lisped in his ear, sounding much more somber than normal, "I was honestly pretty scared when I heard you start screaming 'make it stop' over and over."

"My ears are still ringing after that ordeal," John muttered.

"What happened while I was... ?"

"Well," Billy began, "you started screaming, fell outta your seat, and basically started thrashing around like a suffocating fish. You punched Molly in the jaw by accident, but she's fine. John and I had to pin you down while a doctor put you under, or else there would've been no way for you to get wheeled to the hospital wing."

"Where's Molly?"

"I dunno."

John raised his head slightly. "Molly's been staying away from everyone. She keeps telling me that nothing's wrong, but we all know how bad a liar she is."

Lawrence pushed himself upright, wincing at the pain in his ankle. "Do you guys know what caused me all that pain?"

They all shook their heads.

Yantrana shook his head as he watched the five converse.

That man has but the tiniest, barest murmur of darkness within him. His heart is almost as pure as hers. A shame that they fell in love in such a world and in such a place.
