"You still trying to get her to laugh?" John asked. Billy was still shelling out dumb puns every five seconds whenever Dr. Collingwood was around, but stopped whenever she left.

"Uh, yeah?"

John shook his head, chuckling. "You're way overthinking it, Billy boy."

"Oh? So what are you gonna do?"

John patted the sloth on the head, the way he always did whenever he was about to do a demonstration. "Watch and learn Billy, watch and learn."

John slowly shuffled up to her like he always did. When she looked up at him, his "troublemaker grin", as Billy liked to call it, appeared on his usually serene countenance.

She took a step back. "John, why are you smiling like that at me?"

Without any warning he scooped her up and she let out a shriek as he started tickling her sides.

"John! No! St-AHAHAHAHA-stop it! NO! N-AHAHAHAHA-NO! AHAHAHAHA! Stop it!"

John didn't stop, instead prodding her neck and under her arms, causing her to laugh even harder. All the while she was squirming around like a fish caught in a net, trying vainly to get out of his grip.

After what seemed like hours John let his friend go. She collapsed onto a chair, still laughing breathlessly.

"John, why?"

He playfully ruffled her hair. "Don't they say laughter is the best medicine?"

When she left, John leaned over to Billy and whispered into his ear, "And that, my friend, is how you make someone laugh without puns or jokes."
