"Nothing's working, sir," Evan said, trying his best to keep his voice calm. He hated admitting it, but the head of this particular Chaos Insurgency site terrified him. "She won't respond, even when we tried shocking her. She just grit her teeth and didn't make a noise."
"Then bring in Terov," said the site director. "His powers will allow him to search her mind directly."
Evan shuddered and nodded with a gulp. Terov was a man with anomalous powers and was every bit as terrifying as the site director, maybe even more so. He had a penchant for torture and loved digging through the minds of anyone the Chaos Insurgency allowed him to get his hands on.
"Director Jones, I am certain that the missing employees have been kidnapped," Billy said firmly.
A bunch of employees hadn't shown up at work, including Dr. Buck, who was very particular about being on time. It had gone on for a week now, and there was no way that it was just because they were sick. John said that he could sense that they were somewhere they'd never been before.
The director took off his glasses and sighed. "You are probably right. But there is still the problem of trying to find them."
"John can do it. Remember, he's always aware of the location of anyone who has ever seen his face, directly or indirectly, whether they realize it or not."
"That... is a surprisingly good idea coming from you."
"I still have brain cells, you know."
