John looked at the small stone bead in his hands that he had spent a good five days on, not including all the times he'd screwed up, destroyed it, and had to start over. He'd carved it with his own nails. The rough orb seemed even more tiny and fragile in his large hands. He let out a sigh and tucked it into the folds of his scarf to keep it safe.

"Hey John," Billy poked his head into the dark closet John had been working in. He looked unnaturally tense. "How's it going?"

"Fine. What's wrong?"

"It's about Dr. Collingwood. She's drifting further and further from us, and I have absolutely no idea what to do. Even Dr. Buck seems worried, and I'm telling you, that lady is d*mn near unflappable. If she's worried about something, then that. Is. Huge."

"I don't know. Do what you do best? Try to cheer her up?"

"I'm trying, but it's no use. Half the time she snaps at me when I even try talking to her."

John's brows shot up. Now that was concerning. Dr. Collingwood never got angry or even frustrated without a good reason. And Billy, for how annoying he could be, was still someone she trusted with her life. If the knowledge that Procedure 110-Montauk was real and that SCP-999 was the son of the Scarlet King himself couldn't shake her to this degree, then what possibly could?

John wasn't entirely sure if he really wanted to know the answer to that question.
