Cathan Leywin Pov
It's been almost a year since I awakened, I already reached the solid red stage, I've been training with my dad and Arthur every day, we would only do some light exercises and I've been learning to augment myself.
We decided to keep my awakening a secret for now. My father managed to contact a couple of his past Adventurer party members to help rebuild the decimated part of our house while we stayed in the nearby inn. With conjurers raising the ground for the foundation and augmenters doing the grunt work, the house didn't take too long to finish. The beauty of magic! Surprisingly, none of my father's ex-party members seemed to question why our house blew up.
That seemed to say a lot about our idiot father.
Arthur also awakened about four months ago, although his explosion wasn't as big as mine, he has been joining me in augmentation training, dad was surprised by how fast we've learned to augment ourselves, so far we can only use what's known as pure mana.
Once a mage reaches a certain stage they can find out what their elemental affinity is, for conjurers, it's even clearer than augmenters, I also learned about deviants and all of the mana affinities.
Something I also noted was seeing children, as well as teens working on farms with their family and forges as apprentice blacksmiths made me realize there was no mandatory form of a structured education system. Any sort of rudimentary education was provided by their families.
As soon as we turned three, my mother began giving us lessons for a set time, teaching us how to read and write. Playing the role of genius sons, we pretended to learn quickly, to her delight, so we could read harder books in the library without drawing suspicion.
Fire mana is commonly regarded to be the most powerful element, aside from elemental deviants that are, there are also a few very rare types of deviants such as healers for humans, I've also been trying to see which elements best suit my style.
From what limited information I have about elemental and deviant mages I've written a journal to study which affinity is best in each situation, and what elements they are weak and strong against.
from what I know sound magic seems to be extremely destructive being more like a giant invisible war hammer, while wind magic seems to behave like invisible blades, water magic seems to be extremely looked down upon for augmenters, seeing as using fire mana also works to protect you from fire attacks.
Ice magic on the other hand seems to be extremely powerful, while it is not very useful for a duel, it seems to be useful to act as support magic to restrain the enemies' movements and seems to be a good counter to wind magic.
Lightning magic relies heavily on speed, so using it with a weapon that focuses on destructive abilities rather than speed is a smart choice, its main uses are enhancing both speed and reflexes, paired with its slight destructive power it's one of the most deadly types of magic when it comes to duels.
Fire magic while unable to bolster up much of a destructive force is very useful for breaking through defenses and protecting the mage from fire attacks, it is very useful against ice mages, and seems to pressure your opponent into avoiding clashing your blades for too long.
Earth and gravity magic seem to be a good choice for mages the rely on speed, as earth mana can be used to event negate the impact of a hit and make the ground below you absorb it, and lowering gravity would lead to your strength increasing, although using it will give up some of your movement management.
Deviants are extremely rare and powerful, with only human mages able to use the higher forms based on their skills and insight rather than race, humans can manipulate all four elements and their deviant form.
