Like father, like son

Cathan Leywin Pov

We were sitting on a couch, my mother right beside me with Eleanor on her lap. Father was sitting on a chair he pulled up, facing Arthur, his elbows on his knee as he leaned forward. Mother was holding our hands and still tearing up every time she got a look at our faces.

"Are you okay now? Did you at least eat three meals a day? Did you sleep while dressing warmly every day right? Oh, my babies. Look how big you are now. " Tears escaped her eyes as she squinted and smiled.

She was stroking my hair as she planted a soft kiss on the crown of my head. "Thank God you're back. I'm so happy," she whispered, her voice still trembling.

Eleanor was looking curiously at Sylvie, Azrael Arthur, and me while the baby dragons were sitting up next to Arthur and me attentively observing the three unfamiliar humans.

Father was looking at Sylvie and Azrael with a curious expression but he didn't mention them. Turning his gaze to us, his eyes softened and he kept shaking his head, repeating how big we were now. It must be a pretty fulfilling yet miserable feeling for a parent to see how big his sons had gotten but not being there with them the whole time to witness it.

"Ellie, say hi to your big brothers. They were away for a while but they'll live together with us from now on. Come on, say 'hello'. " My mother gently urged my sister.

"Brothers?" She tilted her head, reminding me of a confused Azrael.

She cupped her hands over my mother's ear and whispered something inaudible.

"Haha yes, those big brothers. The ones I always told stories about. they're the ones."

My sister's eyes started sparkling as she looked back at Arthur. I couldn't help but now wonder what stories Mother had told her.

"Hai Brother~!" She beamed, waving both of her little hands at us.

"Hello, Eleanor. It's nice to meet you... Sister. " Arthur laughed, patting her head in response.

"It's nice to meet you, Eleanor. Make sure to hide your candy from Arthur, he'll eat it all if he does find it." I whispered the last part.

Father spoke up now. "Arthur, Cathan, we were devastated after that incident, and we barely believed it when you communicated to us through our heads. Tell me, how'd you survive the fall?"

It took a while for Arthur to explain everything from the beginning. He withheld some information that we thought might not be good to tell them just yet. We explained to them that we subconsciously wrapped ourselves in a protective layer of mana and we were lucky enough to hit a bunch of branches on the cliff before landing in a stream. From there on, Arthur told them about meeting Tess and how she was almost kidnapped. After saving her, she led us to her Kingdom and we stayed there.

I let Arthur tell them everything since I couldn't tell them about Miras, and since I wasn't exactly with Arthur during the first five months, and I couldn't just show up telling them about becoming a beast tamer and reaching solid yellow.

"You said something about an illness that kept you from coming back sooner. What was all that about? Are you cured now?" My mother chimes in, a look of concern on her face.

Shaking his head, Arthur explained, "You don't need to worry about that anymore. I guess there was a sort of instability in our mana cores that made it so we had episodes of pain. It was really bad at first but luckily there was an elder that knew how to cure it. The process was slow but he assured us it wasn't threatening if treated consistently."
