*Alden's P.O.V*

I see her.

She got on top of the horse and then walked past the gate with her brother, Aaron. They were off to Alexandria for the day. I mean, she lives here and her brother lives over there. But she's visiting.

We know each other but we hardly talk or anything. We only talk when we are taking turns with babysitting shifts for baby Adam.

Only a couple of words are spoken between the two of us.

There's not much more to that, if I'm being honest.

I walked back with Earl to where we were working because we still had to work. Blacksmiths are always hard at work.

"Do you like Shelby or something?" Earl asked me as I grabbed a piece of metal.

I shook my head. "It's not like that, Earl."

"Are you sure?" He asked. "Since I keep thinking that maybe she likes you or something and then you would smile at her when you two talk."

"We don't talk that much. We see each other around here because we live in the same community but that's it. Besides, I'm still not over.."

I can't even finish my sentence. But he knows what I'm talking about. We both are going through the same thing.

"You miss Enid, don't you?"

I nodded. "I do. I think about her everyday. When I didn't find her in the audience at the fair, I was worried. Then when we found out what happened, I haven't been the same since."

"I haven't been the same either. I miss my wife." He said.

"Enid and Tammy were good people."

I began chopping at the metal and seeing the sparks flicker off the metal every time I hit it. This is what I do to distract myself. So that I don't have to think about what has happened.

I like to remember the people but not the tragedy.

I remember that day clearly. Enid and I were having candy apples at the fair and she was watching Luke and I practice our music number. But then as soon as it happened, she wasn't there until I found out what happened, along with everyone else.

It makes me mad but I don't want to do anything that would be dangerous.

So I would just distract myself with work and see what happened when it's night time.

But I think I got too distracted. Because then without even realizing it, a piece of the metal had cut my arm and it started bleeding.

"Alden." I heard a voice say and I looked up at Earl.

He pointed to my arm and I looked down. I saw a line of blood starting to flow and I just cursed to myself.

"Let's go and see the doctor." Earl said and I followed him into the infirmary.

The doctor had me sit on the bed and he wiped the blood off before putting some medicine on it. Then he topped it off with a bandage. I can't believe that it just happened and I got hurt on the job.

I was told that the wound would heal in a few days and I nodded and we both left.

"Maybe you should take the day off." Earl said to me.

I shook my head. "No, I'm fine. I just need a ten minute break and I'll get back to it."

Earl let me have the ten minute break and I sat in the chair as he went back to work. I watched him show me some new techniques that he learned so that I knew what to do whenever I start to use some new techniques.
